Dean's POV
"We are waiting way too long," I say to Sam while we sit in the car. My fingers tap the wheel nervously. "Evangeline didn't report anything the last hour."
"I bet Rowena made her drunk and she is dancing on a table," Sam answers, laughing.
"Haha, not funny," I reply and roll my eyes, annoyed. "Did you and Eileen haven't settled, getting in touch with you now and then?"
"No, she is a pretty good hunter. She will manage."
I hear the satisfaction in his voice and it makes me even more annoyed.
"Ok, that's it. I will go in there." and in no time, I get out of the car.
I open the trunk and arm myself with everything we have to fight against demons.
"Dude, when you go in there, we don't know...."
"We don't know my ass!" I shout," we do know very well! There will be demons and I will knock them all out myself if I need to. Now, will you join me or not?"
And I hold up a knife. Sam takes it and I shut the trunk.
"Dean, let's think for a second."
"About?"
"Look, I guess we will not even make it through the door. So..." he starts looking around, then points to one of the buildings," let's get up there, and we can first spy to see what we might have to expect."
I grumble but nod. He is right. We can't help if we get caught.
So we climb up the fire escape of a building on the opposite side of the club. It's not that high so that we can see enough in the dark.
We crouch at the edge of the roof.
The lights outside of the club are still switched on, but there are no doormen or other people on the street. Usually, there are always people outside, smoking or whatever.
Sam and I share a look.
I pull out my phone, but still no message from Eve.
"Ok, Sherlock, what now?" I ask Sam.
"It's too quiet for a club. No people, no music. Something is off."
"I told you." I get up and start walking towards the stairs. "I will go in."
Sam hurries to climb down the stairs too.
Slowly, observing every corner of the streets, we jog over to the entrance. I lean my ear against it, but there is nothing to hear. I shake my head and Sam passes me. We try to get to the back door and funnily enough, we get there without any problems.
We look at each other, knowing this seems to be a trap.
When the thought finally sinks, I feel a lump in my throat. Usually, I have no problem walking into a trap. I did this most of my life, but knowing who got caught and needs our help, makes me want to puke. I'm always worried when it comes to saving people, but this time feels so profoundly different, I'm not sure if I can handle it.
Sam hits me by my shoulder.
"You good?" he whispers.
I nod and make a motion that I will follow him.
Sam opens the door slowly. The hallway lights are switched on and we glide inside, either of us on a wall, holding up the demon blades.
Still, we can't hear anything, not even the slightest noise. Where are they?
We check every door on our way, but other than the stalls or a storage room, we can't find anything.
Then all of a sudden, we hear people talking behind the next door. The door is more oversized. I guess it's the entrance to the club.
Sam and I stop, trying to hear what is talked about inside.
"Sam! Dean! Just come in."
A voice let us startle, and the door swings open. Four demons escort us inside, grabbing us at our necks.
Shocked, I see the three women, handcuffed and gagged on their chairs.
My eyes fly over to Eve and I see the apology in her eyes.
"Long time no see."
The same voice as before talks, but the man who belongs to, turns his back to us, facing his victims.
"And I hate reunions like that, but unfortunately," I see him shrugging his shoulders before he turns around," you two decided to let these three pretty women march into my club."
Unmistakable, it's Jesse. Of course, he is older now, but I would recognize him without a doubt.
"Jesse," I hiss," how was Australia?"
"Hot," he answers, grinning.
"Oh, but not hot enough, right? You would prefer the hotness of hell more." I state and he chuckles.
"Dean, once a big mouth, always a big mouth. Do you think I forgot when and how we met?"
I stretch my chin without answering him. His demons still hold Sam and me.
"Oh, you wanna get sentimental now? Great, let's start with your parents. How about that?" I say and see Sam closing his eyes.
My gaze travels from him to Jesse so that I can look over his shoulder. I see Eve nestling behind her back. I guess she tries to reach the blade in her bracelet. I nod, barely visible.
Then I hear Jesse talking again: "Well, if you wanna know, my parents have been dead since the day I left. Demons were after them because they wanted to know where I am."
"And now you work with them?" I ask him, trying to let him concentrate on Sam and me.
"Well, yes and no. After my parents died, I hopped all over the whole world, back and forth, so they wouldn't find me. But the older I got, the more I learned how stupid they are..." he looks at the demons behind us," no offense. And I thought I could use it for myself."
"And what now? Are you the next who wants to overthrow the world with darkness? Dude, get in line."
Jesse laughs:" No, I have no interest in the earth, the earth is dull. I want heaven and hell, both. Just think about it. Both eternities united under one God. No more wars between demons and angels. Wouldn't this be wonderful?"
"And you are the leader?" I snort, "again, get in line. We already have leaders of heaven and hell."
"Oh, you mean her?" and he points behind him, "well, I have to admit, she is good, but meh, I'm better."
I spot a movement behind him, Eve gets her hands free, but she is smart enough to let her hands behind her back.
I look back to Jesse:" Ok, what now? If you wanted to kill us, you would have already done it."
"That's true. But I needed an effective form of pressure."
"What does that mean?"
"Well, maybe you don't know it yet, but your sweet little angel over there has some abilities that I think are useful."
My eyes widen and I can't do anything about it.
"Oh, I see, you really didn't know it, so maybe the angel doesn't know it either. That's so much better." and he claps his hands with an evil grin on his face," that way, I can educate her the way I want. She is still young, right?"
"She is old enough."
"Oh really?" Jesse asks back.
"Yes."
And at this moment, Eve gets up from her chair, shouts out her safe word and with the touch of her hands, she disappears with Eileen and Rowena.
At the same time, Sam and I start to fight the demons behind us.
I have no time to think about Jesse until I spot Eve in the corner of my eye. She came back and immediately begins to throw punches against Jesse. But he only defends himself without hurting her. She is essential for him, in a way, so he wouldn't dare to touch her.
After Sam and I killed the demons, it's just Jesse and us.
We surround him, and he circles, trying to face us all.
I know we can't harm him with our weapons. I just hope he will vanish the same way he did as a kid. But instead, we hear a nearly unbearable scream. I shoot around, seeing something or someone running against Eve. It's so fast, none of us can react quickly enough to save Eve.
We can see her getting tackled to the floor from something black, night black.
Before Sam or I can take one step, Jesse lifts an arm, throwing us against the wall and holding us there. In horror and unable to move, I see Eve lying on the floor. Over her, a black shadow in the shape of a dog. A massive dog. She holds the fangs out of her face by grabbing the dog at his throat, but the hound doesn't care at all. It bared its teeth, and the drool drops out between. Eve's eyes widen in horror and it seems like she isn't able to look in another direction. She stares at him as if no one else is with her in the room.
"Eve..." I shout out, but Jesse mutes me and I choke on my words.
Come on, sunshine, I think to myself, and Jesse speaks up:'' Oh ssshh Dean, let's see what will happen. This is going to be interesting." and I wish I could beat the evil grin from his face.
Then it dawns on me, Eve mentioning I could pray to her and she would hear me. I close my eyes and I start to pray as intensely as I possibly can: " Eve, it's me, Dean! I hope you can hear me! Eve, you need to fight. I don't know what this thing is doing to you, but we are here! We are here! Come on, fight." I open my eyes again, just to see how Eve shoves a palm over the eyes of the hound and a golden light appears. The brighter the light gets, the hound starts howling in pain. Jesse still just holds us, not doing anything, just watching Eve against the hound. The cry gets even louder until it finally discharges from Eve. Like in pain, the hound backs away from her and as a dog would do, it curls itself to Jesse's feet.
Eve gets back on her feet, and when she is lying on the floor, fear was plastered on her face, now her facial expression changes and it's pure anger.
"Let them go." she grits through her teeth.
"Oh, you mean, these two?" and he points to Sam and me. "Under one condition," and he holds out a palm towards her," you are coming with me." he wiggles his fingers.
"No!" I barely holler. Jesse's force still prevents me from doing anything and in my head, I'm going nuts about it.
Eve's eyes shoot over to me and her glare is so strict, I never thought she would be able to even consider a harsh thought.
I can see her reaching something from behind her back while Jesse's eyes glance over to Sam and me.
Wherever she was hiding it, she pulls a weapon from behind her back, aims and shoots two times at Jesse. The bullets strike Jesse's body and Sam and I slide to the ground. For a few seconds, Eve was able to deviate him and with a few steps, she passes him and creeps down to where Sam and I try to get our breaths again. She touches our shoulders and we vanish from this place.
