Evangeline's POV
Right after the practice, Dean tells me to get ready for a day outside of the bunker.
"Can I wear a dress?" I ask because I don't know what Dean planned.
He chuckles: "Whatever you want, sunshine."
I'm happy to hear that and run over to my room, pulling out the yellow dress I like so much. Eileen put my hair into a ponytail and I decide to leave it like that.
I meet Dean in the great hall, where Sam and Eileen are sitting and talking.
"Aw, all dressed up?" Sam says when he sees me.
"Oh, yeah, Dean said it was ok to wear a dress," I answer.
Sam turns in his chair when Dean joins us. He wears a shirt and one of his flannels over it.
"So? Where are you going?" Sam asks him and Dean snorts:" When I'm going to tell, all you would do is get on my nerves about it."
Sam shakes his head laughing and I can see Eileen grinning too. I don't really understand what this is about, but maybe I will have the chance to ask Sam later.
Dean grabs my hand, pulling me towards the stairs to head outside. Climbing up, I look down again and Sam is awkwardly waving, but Dean doesn't give me a chance to think about it.
In his car, I ask: "What are we doing?"
"Nope, still not gonna tell." and he drives off.
After an hour's drive, he drives into a parking lot and when I see where this lot belongs, I almost want to jump out of the car before Dean even stops.
I squeak in excitement: "The Zoo? You taking me to the Zoo? Oh my God." and my palms hide my lips. I have thought about where Dean is going to take me, but I never expected this. Dean seems like the guy for having burgers and beer.
"Yeah, I thought you would like it."
"Like?" I shout out, "I love it. Ic can't wait. This is going to be the best day ever."And it literally was the best. Even Dean promised me there will be way better days. But for now and especially for me, this is truly amazing. To see all the creatures God places on this planet, in all their wide differences. Every time I see something new, it happens almost every few steps, I'm the one jumping through the whole area. Sometimes Dean needs to hold me back because people are watching us, but I don't care.
After hours of walking to see every single animal, Dean says: "I guess I was never that long in a Zoo, not even with a kid."
"I'm sorry, it's just so exciting." and I make a few steps ahead of him, going backward to look at him.
I see him smiling generously: "It's ok, I'm happy you are."
"I'm thrilled," and I stop walking till he meets me.
I smile up at him, and he answers with the same emotion. His hands are buried in the pocket of his jeans and he looks down at me. I can see, the color of his eyes seems to have a different shade of green in the sunlight. It's the green I would describe as the color of spring. I blink a few times to wash away the urge to kiss him because I'm not sure if I can do it just like that. He hasn't kissed me since yesterday evening in his room, so I'm insecure if he would want that.
"What you thinking?" He asks.
"I...uuuh," I stutter," I was wondering..." but I don't have the courage to end the question.
"Eve, just ask, I won't bite," he replies and goes on a little quieter," at least not here and now."
My eyes shoot back to his face and he grins widely.
I slap his arm slightly: Don't always make fun of me. Most of the time, I don't even understand."
"Ok, ok, sorry," he responds and then asks in a gentle tone, "What do you want to ask?"
"I wanted to know if it would be... Would it be ok to kiss you here." and I wave one of my hands around, implying I mean the place we are at.
I assumed I would hear him laughing because my eyes are locked at my feet, but when I don't hear any feedback, I mumble:" Well, ok then...."
And before I can spill out an apology, Dean leans down and makes me look at him by moving my head with his fingers laid under my chin. Since tears sting my eyes, I try to gulp them down before I lock my gaze with him. I witness the wrinkles around his eyes that always show when he smiles and then he presses his lips onto mine. Gently, just an innocent, long kiss. When he breaks the touch, he mumbles: "Don't ever ask that. Just do it."
I nod and he hugs me around my shoulder, pulling me beside him. This way, we walk through the rest of the Zoo.
At the exit, there is a souvenir shop and I persuade Dean to have a look inside. The shop is stuffed with stuffed animals, books, toys, jewelry and so much more. I can't get enough by looking at almost everything.
"Do you want something?" I hear Dean asking behind me.
"Oh no," I soothe," it's enough for me that we were here."
Dean nods: "Then let's get out of here and grab something to eat. We should also buy something for Eileen and Sam."
"Yes, sounds great."
We head out of the Zoo and Dean drives to a diner where we buy burgers and fries.
Back at the bunker, we place the food in the kitchen and Dean goes to get Sam and Eileen.
In the silence of the kitchen, I look around, hanging in my thoughts. In the last few days, I've been here now, these walls feel more like a home than heaven ever was. I wasn't awake in heaven for as long as other angels, but I always had the feeling something was missing.
I hear the three humans coming down the hallway, laughing and happy and when they enter the room, I know what was missing. Loving people. It's not the place you are in, it's the people that make whatever place a home.
Dean shows up at last and it feels natural to beam at him like there are no other people in the room. He sits down beside me, placing a palm on my thigh. This little gesture makes my belly feel a sensation. It's a flash, a hot glimmer inside me.
Sam spreads the food while chatting with Dean and Eileen. I remain silent, enjoying the feeling not only Dean gives me. Eileen's and Sam's kindness from the beginning warms my heart.
"Are you not hungry?" Dean asks and disturbs my thoughts.
"What?" I startle," oh, yes, no, I mean, yes I am." and I start eating and join the conversation. Eileen tells us, she talked to Rowena once more and that she wants to find a spell, so I can maybe keep my powers and Dean and I tell them about the day in the zoo.
After the meal, Dean gets up and takes something out of the fridge. He places three beers on the table and a glass in front of me. Inside is something to drink, with the color of the sun, likewise a straw and an umbrella.
Sam first looks baffled, then laughs out loud.
"You bought this? For real?"
Dean sits down again: "Yeah, why?"
Still laughing, Sam shakes his head, but he doesn't say anything more.
I try the drink and it's sweet and sour at the same time and there is a different taste, but I can't put my finger on it.
"Hmmm... That's yummy. What is that?" I ask and take another sip.
"It's a Tequila Sunrise."
"What is Tequila?"
"Dude," Sam shouts out," you gave her Tequila?"
"What's wrong with that?" I ask Sam and again, I drink. It's like I can't get enough of it.
"Well, for someone who has never drunk alcohol before, Tequila is a strong start. Just don't drink it that fast."
But it's almost too late, my glass is more empty than full. I stop drawing, glancing over to Sam.
"Oops," I say, laughing and all of a sudden, I can feel my head getting dizzy. But not in an unpleasant way. I somehow like the feeling. My head and heart feel lighter than before.
"Can I get another?" I ask Dean and it's like the smile is plastered on my face, I can't stop.
"You should take it easy, Sunshine."
"But, I like that. And you gave it to me, so..." I wave my hands at him," please?" And I clink my eyes and lean my head against his shoulder.
I hear Sam and Eileen almost dying of laughter.
Dean slowly leans away to get up and bring me another drink.
When my glass is filled up again, my head gets even more lightweight and I have the urge to do something. I stand up, taking my glass with me.
"Where do you go?" I hear Dean asking.
"Main Hall," I answer and throw one of my arms over my head.
Arriving there, I start the computer. Or I try, my vision is somehow not fully in good order, but I manage and I start to play some music.
I see Dean, Sam and Eileen joining me, but they all just stare at me.
"What?" I ask," do you never do that?" and without thinking about it, I start to dance. I recognize how they are staring at me while I move. I approach Sam and Eileen, taking their hands, pulling them with me. First, they look at each other with wide eyes, but Sam shrugs his shoulders and takes Eileen's hands to dance with her.
Satisfied, I watch them for a short time before I turn to Dean. He sees it and immediately gets the hands out of his pocket, trying to ward himself.
I grab his palms, shoving his arms down and look up to him. "Please?" I just ask while Dean shakes his head.
"No, I told you...."
But I stop him: "Nah, you told me not to tell you danced with me already, not that you are going to decline me when I ask you again."
"You are drunk."
"Is this drunk?" I ask back," no idea, but please. Just...."
But now he interrupts me: "Ok, ok." and he lets me pull him with me.
I use Dean's hand as I dance. His body remains still; only his arm is moving, but only because I move it.
After one more twist, I stop and look at him. I intertwine my fingers with his and get closer to him.
I feel his other arm around me, and I lean against his chest.
"Sorry," I mumble, "I don't want to make you feel uncomfortable."
"You don't, I'm just not used to."
"To what?" I reply, confused.
"To almost everything."
I now lay my chin on his chest and see him locking his eyes with mine.
"Everything? I guess I don't understand what that means."
The music is still blasting and Sam and Eileen still dance together. They are so cute together.
Dean takes a deep breath and mumbles against my ear: "Eve, it's not new to me, but the last time I experienced something like this, like with you, seems to be in another life. So much has happened and it's tough to get engaged in it again."
I stay quiet for a moment, trying to comprehend what Dean just said. I can see and feel so many emotions on his face. Most of all, fear, trust, anger, guilt but even love. Love for his family.
I stop the small movements I still do and sling my hands around his neck.
"Again, I'm sorry. I won't force you into something or anything like this here if it makes you angry or sad."
"Maybe I need to get forced sometimes," Dean answers," humans need to get remembered now and then what is good for them."
I smile at him:" Ok, then we need a deal, I guess."
"A deal?" he replies.
"Yes, sort of: I will ask you three times and no more. If you want to do it anyway after I asked three times, it's on you."
Dean grins:" Ok, deal."
I want to take a step back to seal the deal with a handshake, but he holds me tight onto him.
"We don't seal it like this. We do it like this." and he places his lips on mine.
My fingertips crawl up into his hair, making his hairstyle a mess, while his hands roam over my back.
It takes us a few harrumphs from Sam to remember where we are and that we are not alone.
"Get yourself a room." I hear Sam shouting and quickly Dean grabs me under my butt, pulls me high and starts marching out of the hall.
This time, he makes his way to my room. I cling around his neck, inhaling his scent. The scent I love so much.
Dean places me on my bed gently and throws a blanket over me.
"Hey, I'm still in my clothes." I try to get up, rather poorly but Dean steadies me so that I can get back on my feet again. Still drunk, I can feel it in every pore of my body. I start to get rid of my jeans and shirt, not even caring that Dean is still in the same room.
In my underwear, I crawl back into my bed.
"Now you can cover me." and I wave my fingers towards the blanket and grinning, Dean throws the blanket over me again.
I hear his footsteps getting away and I mumble while my brain rides a carousel: "Would you stay?"
And I stretch out one hand, trying to make him come back to me.
I peek under my half-closed eyes and see him coming back. Satisfied, I smile, waiting for him.
He gets rid of his flannel and jeans and creeps under the blanket with me.
His palm travels over my bare stomach and settles there. I hear and feel him breathing against my skin and the last thing I sense before I fall asleep is a soft kiss on my neck.
