Evangeline's POV
Just a short time later, we enter the guestroom Jody prepared for us. It's a cozy room in the attic.
Laying in bed, I turn to face Dean and ask him: "Why do you want to keep me away?"
Confused, he asks back:" What do you mean?"
"I mean, tomorrow, when you will observe the bodies. Why don't you want me to come with you?"
Dean sighs but answers:" The last time, you got trapped."
"But this time, I'm with you. We would go together. And Dean, I'm here to help, but I can't do that if you won't let me."
"I know, I know. It's just hard to tell the police why two FBI agents get accomplished by two women. Usually, there are only two agents."
"I see," I reply.
"Eve, it's not that I don't want you around. It's just not handy to overdrive with so many people."
"It's ok. I understand." I say, but I feel a pinch in my chest. I do know that Dean doesn't mean to spite.
"Hey. Look at me," Dean says and I look up at him.
"I know I can't keep you away from everything and I guess I do know that we need your powers someday. But tomorrow, Sam and I will go there alone."
I nod and give him a slight smile. Dean scoots me nearer towards him and starts to kiss me. As soon as our lips find each other, I get the warmth and tickling feeding in my body, I can feel the protection he wants to give me.In the morning, we meet up for breakfast. Alex is already gone to work, but this time Claire joins us. She looks like she is in a better mood today.
Sam and Dean are already clothed in
their suits. I haven't seen Dean like that and I think it really suits him well.
Sam, Dean, Eileen and Jody eat fast so that they can leave early.
I'm still a bit mad that I get barred, but I don't want to argue.
Dean kisses me goodbye and says:" We will be back soon. Claire is here to keep you company."
I chuckle and whisper my answer:" Nice, the one person who seems to hate me."
Dean grins:" She doesn't hate you. She just had terrible experiences with angels. For her, you are not trustworthy."
I nod. I know what happened to her Dad and later to her Mom. Life really worked badly on her.
"Just hurry." and I peck his lips one more time.
Jody walks past us:" Dean, are you able to split up for a few hours?"
He rolls his eyes but doesn't answer her. He leans down, kisses me quickly and then leaves the house.
I turn around, eyeing the empty room. I have no idea what to do with the time, but I see a bookshelf. I roam over the spines until one book catches my interest. I pull it out and start to read, sitting in the chairs.
No idea how long I have been reading when footsteps interrupt me. Claire enters the room.
"Hey there," I greet her.
"Hey," she replies and sits down across on the couch.
She first looks at me, then out of the window.
"Claire..." I start and she faces me again.
"I wanted to apologize," she says to my surprise and, I guess, have a baffled look on my face because he starts to smile.
"Dean talked to me...."
I hold up a palm to stop her:" Claire, you don't need to apologize if you don't want it."
"No, it's just..." she hesitates," ... I really had some bad experiences with your kind and projected them onto you. But I trust Dean and his judgment."
I nod: "Thank you. I promise, all these kinds of Angels, they aren't anymore. We are now build up differently."
"I hope so," is her short answer, "what are you reading, by the way?"
"Oh, it's nothing, I just..." but because I refuse an answer, she stands up and lifts the book from my lap.
"A cookbook?"
"Well, yes. I have no idea how to cook, so I thought...."
"Why would you want to cook?"
"I...," my answer comes out as a stutter," I would like to do something for Dean. I saw how much he enjoyed Jody's meal yesterday and...."
"And you thought you would like to impress him?"
"Kind of."
She starts to laugh and I feel embarrassed, so I shut the book close.
"It was a lousy idea," I whisper.
"No," Claire states," I don't laugh about you. I laugh because you think you need to impress him."
My look shoots towards her, not sure what she means.
"You should have heard what he said to me," and she grins," come, we can try to make a pie for Dean. He loves pie."
"You can bake?" I ask, getting up and following her to the kitchen.
"Yeah, Jody shows Alex and me how to do stuff in the kitchen."
"She is very nice."
"Yeah and very annoying."
"Isn't that what Moms are supposed to be?"
I expected Claire to snap at me because I just realized that Jody isn't her real mom. But to my surprise, she smiles:" Guess they are."
Claire gets out all the ingredients and some kitchen gadgets. She explains to me what I need to do.
I wouldn't say it's exhausting, but it's kind of hard, at least when I think about trying to remember everything. You need to heat the oven, cut the fruits, and make the pastry.
I wipe my forehead, my palms are covered in flour.
Claire and I chat a little, and I'm glad she is now more open and asks about heaven.
Sometime later, my phone rings. I'm still not used to a phone and Claire shows me again how to read the message.
It's from Dean:" Hey Sunshine, we need a little while, we are going to talk to relatives of the victims. Maybe two more hours. Are you good?"
Smiling, I answer, telling him I try to make a surprise for him.
His reply comes fast: "Please, let it be you naked in our room when I come home."
I feel my face blushing, even though he is not here. I just write back a short "No." and get a sad little face back as an answer.
"Claire? What are all these little faces?"
She clarifies that they are used to show emotions without using many words.
I chuckle, imagining Dean with a fake sad face, but I decide to leave it like that.
Now that the pie is in the oven, Claire recommends watching something.
"Sure, show me. I'm still new to this TV stuff."
"You never watched TV?"
"Oh, no, I did. But not that much."
We settle in the living room and Claire searches for something.
"Ok, this is really funny and Goofy."
I look at the screen, reading "Brooklyn 99".
And Claire is correct, this is hilarious, even I have to ask now and then what the joke means. But Claire is really patient and explains a lot.
When we hear the oven start beeping, we get the pie out. It smells so tasty, I wish I could eat it right now. But of course, I wait.
During the watch, time flies and sometime later Sam, Dean and Eileen come home.
"Eve? Claire?" I hear Dean's voice from the hallway. I shoot up, approaching them.
"Hey." I greet them.
"Hey," Dean replies, immediately cupping my face to kiss me, "how was your day." and his eyes roam to the living room.
"Quite good."
"Really? I mean, that's great, I just thought Claire would give you a hard time."
I shake my head:" No, she was really lovely."
"Good," he looks down at me," and where is my promised surprise?" and Dean looks me all over, behind me and again into the living room.
"It's not right here," I say, laughing," come."
I lead him to the kitchen and with pride, I show him the apple pie.
Dean's gaze glances between me and the pie:" You did that?"
"With a lot of help, but yes, I tried."
"Oh yes," he makes a striking pose," gosh, I love you...."
Chatting, Sam and Jody enter the kitchen, hearing what he just said and they stop in their tracks, baffled.
I gasp at his words and Dean stops talking, turns to face Sam and Jody, then he stutters:" I...I mean, it... The pie... Of course.."
On Jody's face, a big grin appears and Sam chuckles while I'm still frozen.
Dean slowly turns back to me, mumbling:" Ok, let's try this pie." and he grabs plates and the pie.
I follow him to the table, still trying to process. Do words like that just slip? Or were these words there for a time? But he corrected himself. I know he loves pie, that's why I made some.
I see Dean cutting the pie and sitting down to eat. I still stand beside the table, lost in thoughts.
I then feel Dean's hand touching my arm. I look at him and he asks:" Do you want some?"
I nod and silently, I eat. I recognize there is no one else in the kitchen. I can hear the others talking in the living room.
"Eve?" Dean's voice tingles in my ears.
"Hm?"
"Are you... Are you ok?"
"Oh yeah, sure," I answer.
"Hm, ok. By the way, the pie is fantastic."
I smile at him:" I'm glad you like it."
He shoots himself nearer to me with his chair, whispering:" But you naked would have been an awesome surprise too."
I feel how my face heats up and Dean's nose traces over the skin under my ear.
"We could go upstairs...."
I glance at him:" But, the house is full of people."
"Then we have to be quiet." Dean chuckles.
I shake my head:" No, it's a strange feeling."
"It wasn't in the bunker."
"That's different."
He looks at me, confused:" Why?"
I look into his eyes when I answer:" Because this here is not home."
Dean's eyebrows arch. Then he mumbles:" The bunker... Is your... You mean feel at home there?"
I nod slightly and Dean asks further: "But, what about heaven?"
I shrug my shoulders and feel somehow embarrassed:" I don't know, I didn't spend much time in heaven. And the bunker, it's like a feeling of warmth and just welcoming. Because of Sam, Eileen and you." My words are more a whisper because I don't know what Dean will think about. But when I look at him again, I see a smile around his lips.
My powers sense how fast Dean's heartbeat is at the moment and that he has this warm feeling of comfort inside him.
"You are happy," I state and it's not a question.
Dean's head shoves a little, eyeing me, but he says:" You felt that, right?"
I nod, afraid he would be mad, but his smile just grows bigger before he presses his lips on mine.
We get interrupted by Jody:" Hey, you two, behave under my roof."
We shoot apart and see her grinning.
"We found something the victims had in common," she goes on," let's see what we can do."
We get into the living room. Sam has his laptop on the table, turning it, so we can see the screen.
"A new community. It was built just a few weeks ago."
"A new community?" Dean asks and sits down in front of the computer to scroll through the website.
"Yes, it is a community for people who believe heaven and hell are one like merged together."
"And that's exactly what Jesse wants. What a coincidence."
"But why would anyone believe that?" I ask and Dean snorts:" There are people who believe in a Spaghetti Monster."
"I'm sorry, what?" I shout out and Dean chuckles.
"So, what?" he asks," we try to get in this community?"
"No, not we," Sam answers," but them." and he points at Jody and Claire.
"Nope, Sam, not again." Dean shakes his head.
"Dean, that's not on you to decide." Jody says," because we already decided. Claire and I will go there tomorrow if you like it or not."
Jody's face is stern and I can see and sense that Sam and Dean don't dare to gainsay her.
Dean sighs:" Why is it always Sioux Falls?"
"Well, this city always attracted the supernatural. It's like a spell over it."
Sam nods and Dean drives a palm through his hair:" Well, then. You two are able to manage this, right?"
"We managed much more complicated events." Claire answers.
"True. And now, what about we order some pizza?"
