TW: blood, hospital

~~

As the sun rose, so did the seventeen year old's eyelids. A groan filled the room as he stretched himself out in the hard bed. The cracking of his bones replaced the distant hospital noises. Josh rubbed his eyes and let out a yawn when he sat upright. He squinted at the bright rays peaking through the clouds as he moved the blinds to look out the window.

The weather outside was a little chilly for a late spring day but the view was pretty nice he had to admit. They were eight stories up and even at nine in the morning the sidewalks and streets were alive. Josh looked down as far as he could, seeing all the tiny people walking by and chilling in the court yard below.

Josh sighed against the glass and made it fog up with his hot breath. He silently wished instead of a hospital, he was in an apartment with Tyler. Waking up downtown would be amazing. You could go outside and the city is right there. Sure, Josh lived near by, but he lived in a small neighborhood. He wanted to live a little.

A sudden urge to check on Tyler filled his mind when he thought of his friend. The urge wouldn't dissipate until he did. Josh walked through the trench between their beds and leaned over Tyler to hear him snoring lightly. The older sighed in relief.

Tyler slept peacefully on his left side, facing away from Josh, with his arms out and his legs covered with the white blanket. Josh shivered as he stood watch, in only underwear and a tee-shirt. He figured the younger was cold too so he pulled the blankets up (that were about ready to fall off the bed) and covered him all the way so he wouldn't be cold.

Nothing eventful happened for hours. In Josh's opinion, he rather have nothing interesting happen than have something bad happen at all. So, Josh didn't complain when he sat there wasting half of a day, even if the sky was overcast by this point. He did nothing but use his phone and keep an eye on Tyler. Josh felt the duty to watch, protect, Tyler as he slept a much needed sleep.

Time ticked forward and Josh found himself laying next to the brunet. His back was to the mattress with the younger curled up at his side. Yes, he did put pants on. Only because he was worried someone might see him. The place isn't very private, you know.

It wasn't until 4pm that he felt the younger's eyelashes brush softly across his skin. Josh looked down at the brunet, whos eyes were cracked open and staring at nothing in particular. He noticed the hospital gown was fallling off his shoulders and exposing his protruding collar bone.

"Do you want me to tie that?"

Tyler moved his head to the sound, oxygen tube lopsided on his face. He squinted at Josh. "Huh?" His voice sounded deeper and raspier than usual.

"Your gown? Its falling off. Do you want me to tie it?"

He set his head back down, closed his eyes, and mumbled something incoherent.

"What was that?"

"Don't wanna move." He mumbled so much it took Josh a few seconds to figure out what he had said.

"You would just have to lay on your stomach for a moment but if you don't want to, that's okay. You don't have to I was just wondering if you wanted it tied."

Tyler didn't make any motion. He just laid there for a bit before finally tiredly rolling to his stomach. Josh shuffled until he was sitting up. He fixed the fabric and found the strings and began tieing the hospital gown shut again.

"There you go." He set a hand to his back as he laid down next to him. Josh pulled the blankets up and snuggled into them.

The teen next to him sturred a bit later. He rolled to his side, facing Josh. He sleepily burried his cold feet under Josh's legs so he could warm up. The older didn't mind. Tyler rested his head on the pillow, leaning against the older's arm. Josh smiled at the sleeping boy. He closed his eyes and reached out a hand to Tyler's back to rub circles through the fabric of his gown.
