2018

Since he was the oldest child of the family, Hyuck was the first to experience everything among his siblings.

He has always been a very curious child, so when his best friend became an adult before him, he had countless questions to him about this new stage of life. Most of the time the answers he'd get would be unsatisfactory, as nothing really changed in Renjun's life.

College was same, the air outside didn't feel cleaner, he didn't experience any changes on his body and most importantly, he hadn't met his soulmate yet.

That last thing was what caused Hyuck to look sour, as it had been already two months since that day. He was aware that Renjun didn't go out and socialize with many people, as his days were usually spent painting in the university's art studio.

Maybe his soulmate lived in China? Another city? Or did they go to a different university? But if that's the case, how in the world would the two ever meet?

These were indeed valid concerns, but when the time was right they would eventually meet.

Hyuck did not like that, not one bit. What is 'when the time is right'? What if something goes wrong? Why does he have to wait for something like fate to be happy?

Lee Donghyuck was never the reasonable one of their little group. He would easily get excited and get his hopes high, which eventually made him hurt. He is very stubborn, an can get cranky or sulk if things don't go the way he wants.

Haechan was a nickname given to him by his classmates, as his smile used to brighten up their days. The sunkissed tan skin and warm personality only made it more of an accurate name. He was the star of their class, and the center of the stage during plays. Always making people around him feel good and be happy.

Donghyuck lived for being the happy virus, but once he was alone, the loneliness greatly affected him. When his demons would overpower him, two pairs of hands helped him get up again.

Renjun, who apparently disliked skinship, would be the first one to engulf him in an embrace, and cuddle him to sleep on those days. Seol would nag a bit, and then baby him trying to feed Hyuck with as much food as she can.

She would get his favourite snacks, desserts, buy his favourite foods and drinks. The boy whined about gaining weight because of her behaviour, but his complaints were often ignored, as Seol loved his chubby cheeks.

Aside from his moody nature Hyuck was also an annoying brat, but in a good way. He loved annoying Renjun with hugs and kisses, as the older always pushed him away. Seol was his rival during debates, quizzes and sports competitions. It didn't matter that she was a girl, as she would often beat him at arm wrestling.

Their competitions would always be funny to watch, with Hyuck being loud and talking about his win, just to loose against the quiet girl. Then he'd sulk and cling to Renjun, before Seol would give him a peck on his cheeks and his world returned to peace again.

His argument as to why others should choose to pair up with him during a group quizz in 8th grade was still something he used on his friends even years later.

"Choose me, because you don't want me to be your enemy" was something everyone agreed on, not because he was so good at everything, but because he was ready to win no matter what. Finding loopholes, dodging questions or using cheap tricks to distract his opponents.

He was and he still is a witty genius, no matter how aloof he might seem to be.

The semester was coming to end, which meant it was finally his birthday, the big day. And it required a big celebration with all of his friends and family.

It wasn't unusual for 19th birthday parties to be as big as some weddings, with a venue and fancy dresses. And that was exactly what Hyuck and his mom had planned. As she had only sons, Mrs Lee didn't get many occasions go shopping with them or visit beauty salons.

That was also one of the reasons why she liked Seol a lot, and considered her a daughter... but she couldn't wait to meet her son's soulmate. The mother and son duo were very alike, both their personalities and looks were similar.

As it was a big day, the Huang siblings and Seol had to wear more formal clothes than usually too. Renjun decided to shop together with Donghyuck and his dad, leaving the girls and their mothers to themselves.

None of the men dared to disturb or interrupt Mrs Lee's shopping spree, that Hyuck's younger brothers sadly got included in too.

Finding a simple dress was Seol's plan, nothing flashy or eye catching, and hopefully dark. Mrs Lee was ready to let them try on every single cocktail dress in the store, making sure to find the perfect one.

Hyuck was excited since the morning, and having Renjun over was very much needed. It was his birthday after all, and his usually high energy seemed to have doubled, making him unpredictable.

The party was held in the afternoon at a nearby restaurant, and they had to be there to greet the guests. The two got ready just in time and looked really good in their outfits and hair pulled back.

The guests arrived in time, school and college friends, relatives and family friends were all invited. The Mins and Huangs arrived together, the parents entering first before Seol and Renjun's sister walked in with their arms linked.

Seol's wine red dress looked stunning on her, and Hyuck almost hesitated to hug her not to ruin her styled hair. This made both of his friends crack up and coo at his cute blushing cheeks. The girl on the other hand, had an urge to touch his hair, seeing this look on the tan male for the first time.

After taking pictures the party could officially start. Music, good food and a huge cake were just part of the celebration that ended around midnight. The smile on Donghyuck's face didn't disappear for a second, and he looked like he was having the time of his life.

What a great start into the adult life, and it would be like that in the future too... right?
