Start of May 1993
Security around Hogwarts was extremely high. Students feel like they couldn't breathe, but professors also felt a little uncomfortable. After Hermione and Penelope were attacked, nothing would get past the teachers. Speaking of Penelope, since that was one perfect down, Iris was handed the badge, and she had to take over Penelope's spot. But that meant she would have to see Percy every day, at least she didn't have to start until the start of May. That was 3 weeks since the incident, which Iris used to learn the basics of being a prefect, it wasn't as special as she thought it would be, other than the bath they got to use.
Tonight was her first prefect round, and Iris was nervous. That was mainly due to Percy being there, and he had short temper these days. iris thought Percy might have been upset over Penelope, but he wasn't. He didn't even visit her at the hospital wing, nor did he look sad in any way. He did, however, look a bit tense now that there was for sure an attacker on the loose. "C'mon Iris, we don't want to stay in one place in case we get attacked. As soon as we've swept the halls, we must return back to our dorms." Even though he was being a little bossy, Iris was a bit scared so she listened to him. She wasn't a fan of horror stories or movies and right now seemed to be the kind of story. to distract her from her nerves, she decided to pick on Percy. "So, how's you're ex?" She asked. Percy looked at her, bothered by the question. "I don't know, she's not dead, and I haven't got the time to worry about her." He kept a steady pace, but since he was tall, it was hard for Iris to keep up.
"Oi, slow down. And jeez, aren't you bit selfish?" She wondered out loud. Percy's voice sounded obviously annoyed. "I don't think so. We broke up, she is no longer something I have to worry about." iris was honestly a bit shocked at him, and her reaction was real. "Really? You've only broken up for like 2 weeks, and you're moving on already? She just got petrified for crying out loud, even I went to visit her!" Percy sneered. "You only visited her to see her, not because you cared. And also when you and Wheeler broke up, you didn't seem bothered by him." Iris let out some air. "That's different, I embarrassed him in front of the whole school, I'd be concerned if he still cared about me. If you actually liked her you would at least visit her, and maybe shed a tear." Percy scoffed. "It's none of your business." He said, and Iris thought it was the only phrase he ever said. "Like shit it isn't, but I'm interested that's all. So, are you selfish or are you a coward?"
Percy finally turned around to look at her, offended by her words. "I am not a coward, nor am I selfish. I'm doing what needs to be done, and if Penelope really liked me, she would understand." iris gritted her teeth. Percy resumed walking, but Iris stood there. "I don't think she will Percy, even I didn't understand your decision." Fury was building up in Iris. The redhead scrunched his face. "I don't understand, what are you talking about?" He was actually fed up with her behaviour. iris crossed her arms, "You know exactly what I'm talking about Percy. You don't just tell someone you love them and then snog their enemy." There she said it, and she felt a weight lift off her shoulders. Percy's eyes perked, and his heart stopped. He didn't realize she heard him. "I- I, what? How did you... I didn't-" Iris felt her eyes start to water. "I know you meant it, Percy. What else were you going to say? You were telling me that everyone loved me, and then you said 'I', what else is there to say other than 'I love you'? I like your hair? I love your teeth?" Iris yelled.
Percy stuttered, for once he didn't know what to say. he felt his face heat up, and regret build up. "Don't tell me it was a mistake, I know you meant it. Do you know how that feels Percy? For someone to tell you they love you on their anniversary? And then ruins it? Do you understand how upset I was?" Percy looked down, ashamed. iris looked at him disappointed, she let her pain go. After a couple of minutes, Percy thought of what to say. "I just didn't know what to do, I mean, I thought you didn't love Wheeler. I didn't realize you heard. That must've been why you broke up with him, man I'm such an idiot, I broke you two up didn't I?" Iris was in shock, how stupid was he? She scoffed and was even more disappointed. "No idiot, because I loved you back." She shook her head and walked in the other direction, leaving Percy aghast. But Percy didn't let her walk away from him, he got another chance, so he was going to take it. Forget about being perfect for once.
He ran to catch up, "Iris!" He yelled. She ignored him and continued to walk away. Thinking fast, he grabbed her arms and pulled her into a classroom, locking the door so she couldn't get out. "Iris, if you loved me why didn't you tell me?" Her eyes were red, and her heart ached again. SHe despised the feeling, it made her feel like she was under a curse. "I tried Percy," she spat. "but when I got to you you were already making out with Penelope. Not even 5 minutes Percy, and then all I heard was 'oh Percy' 'right there percy' 'yes per-" she was interrupted by his lips on hers, but it wasn't soft at all. Instead of fighting back, she melted into the kiss. Every moment passing made it more aggressive. When they came up for air Percy muttered, "I was always thinking about you". Iris felt weakened by his words, but she fully intended to have Percy.
