"Hi dad," Iris said quickly as he came into the kitchen. He looked at her suspiciously, Iris rarely ever called him 'dad' anymore. Despite that, he grunted and moved upstairs. Iris sighed in relief. She looked at Harry who was under the table. "Hey Leo," She said. It was a nickname she came up with since his astrological sign was Leo. "They're getting ready for the party, you go run upstairs quietly as I get us some dinner. Don't run into mother or father." Harry nodded before running up the stairs. Iris sighed before quickly moving the vases back to where they belonged and grabbed food from the kitchen. After her hands were full, she also moved upstairs to her bedroom, where Harry was patiently waiting on her bed. She smiled at the little boy and passed him the bigger plate. Harry inhaled his food, today was rather tough on him. Iris laughed to herself and ate the small portion of food. Half an hour later, big voices came from downstairs, Iris distracted the both of them by setting up a game of cards.
It only lasted an hour, however, when Harry fell asleep. Iris put him on her bed and looked at the clock. 8:30, it said. 6 more hours until Iris would turn 11, giving her a mediocre birthday, but the same life. Iris so badly wanted to run away. The idea occurred to her when she saw a little girl with her mother at the mall. They looked like they were having the time of their life, and the mother was fondly looking at her child. Iris yearned for that love, all she got was stern glares. She sighed and decided to read for a bit until she drifted off into an uneasy sleep.

Iris woke up at 6:00 for no reason. She found herself on her desk with her face smushed against her book. She yawned and stretched. Harry was sleeping peacefully on her bed. Iris left her room and went downstairs to make breakfast since she had nothing else to do. She walked down the stairs, half-sleeping. Everything seemed so peaceful in the house. No one was shouting, no one was making noise. Her peace was ruined when she stepped on pieces of parchment, causing crinkling noises. Iris rubbed the sleep away from her eyes and looked down to the floor. The mail was at her feet. Iris thought it was odd since it was only 6 in the morning. Her mind sort of shrugged it off and picked them up. She placed them on the kitchen table, then leaving to get her breakfast. She came back, sitting right in front of the letters. she took a bite out of her toast but stopped when she noticed something from the pile. She could see the name 'Iris' sticking out from the corner of the letter, it was written in fancy ink. Iris lifted it up to examine the letter. No one ever wrote to her. She nearly gasped when she saw the whole thing. it was addressed to her, from a weird place named Hogwarts. Her eyes doubled in size when she saw where it was sent to. The smallest bedroom it said. People only sent it to the house, not the room they were living in.
She turned the thick envelope over and tore it. It revealed thick yellow parchment. Iris started reading the mysterious letter.

Iris finished reading the letter, eyes the size of saucers. Witchcraft and Wizardry School? Hogwarts? Was it a joke? Iris turned the paper over to reveal a list of items and a train ticket. On the list were various items that witches and wizards from fantasy stories used. Wands, cauldrons, owls, cats, toads... and robes? It sounded to Iris that it was a boarding school. Iris was so busy staring at the letter, trying to decide if it was a joke or not, she didn't realize her mother walking into the kitchen.
"Oh, you're up I se- ahh." She screamed suddenly scaring Iris. She looked at her panic striked mother. "W-where did you get that?" She said, moving back from Iris. Iris looked from the letter to her mother. Her head was filled with confusion. "What this? Found it in the mail- wait you know what this is?" Petunia's eyes filled from fear to fury. "Give me that!" She launched for the piece of paper. Iris quickly jolted back from her mother's grasp. "No! It's mine! It was addressed to me!" Iris said, raising her voice slightly.
"What's with the racket?" Said Vernon's voice from the doorway. Iris opened her mouth to say something but closed it. She repeated it several times looking like a fish in the water. Vernon's confused eyes went from his fuming wife to his daughter, until his eye's landed on her hand clutching the letter. Iris saw his eyes catch sight of the letter, causing her to hide it behind her back.
"What is that, in your hand?" He asked aggressively. Iris wanted to vanish in the spot. "I-i found it in the mail." She suggested. Vernon squinted his eyes. "At 6 into the morning?" He yelled. Iris cowered back. Vernon opened his mouth once again, but there was a knock at the door. Vernon's face went even sourer. "Who. is. at. the. door.?" He breathed between every word as he stomped to the front door. He pulled the door open, revealing an old tall lady, wearing emerald green robes, a stern look on her face. Both of Iris's parents gasped, but Iris just looked at her in interest. The lady took the family in and spoke as sternly as she looked. "I am looking for Ms. Dursley."
Vernon and Petunia looked at their daughter. Iris felt all eyes on her, making her cheeks flush a bit. "Uh- t-that's me." She said sheepishly. The lady kept her posture and moved her eyes to Iris. "Right, I am Professor McGonagall, Deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts. May I come in?"
