Chapter: 5

I was conflicted whether or not to tell her what happened with Patrick. Maybe I should wait until after our date tomorrow night. I don't want to jinks anything or get my hopes up. I run upstairs and decide to change my top. I grab my white halter top with rainbow stripes across the front. I also grab my white crochet bikini set. I stuff everything into my leather beach bag. I also grab another beach towel from the hall closet and I wade thru my surf stuff for my sunscreen and hairbrush. I hop downstairs and look into the den. My dad must have gone to work already. I walk into the kitchen to grab my purse and there is a note and a $10 bill and a few singles on the table.

Honey,

Here is some money for lunch and a pizza for dinner. Went to the office to meet with a client. Mom won't be home until late. She works till 5 and then she is getting together to play cards with some girlfriends. Have a good day!

AML (All my love, thats how my dad always signs his notes and letter to me and mom)

DAD

I grab the note and money and shove it into my purse. I decide I should take full advantage of having Molly's car and make a quick run to the gas station. I pick up a 6 pack of beer, a pack of cigarettes, and decide to be nice and fill up Molly's tank with the money my dad left me. I drive over to Molly's house and park in the drive way. I walk around the side of the house to the gate that lead into the backyard. There is a huge pool with some lawn chairs and a dining set around it. I set down the bag and my stuff and walk into the house through the sliding back door.

'Molly I'm here' I call into the living room.

Molly's house is large and modern. It has a sunken in living room with plush shag carpet, all in tones of green, white and yellow. The bright yellow couch wraps around the living room with a tv stand on the wall. There was a few book cases and shelves the lined the other walls with photos and little knick nacks.

'Molly' I call again.

'Coming, sorry' she calls hopping down the modern wooden stairs. She was wearing a bright pink bikini with a crochet dress over it with some wooden sandals. 'I'm still waking up'

'No worries, I brought your car back with a full tank of gas and I also brought a six pack of beer' I smile.

'You're a life savor' she says giving me a peck on the cheek as we head out to the pool.

Molly grabs a towel from the hall closet. She spreads the towel over one of the lawn chairs and I grab my bag. I do the same with mine. She takes off her cover up and lays down. I grab the six pack of beer and hand her one and take one for myself. I grab my purse and take out a cigarette and my lighter. I light it and pass one to Molly. She takes one and lights it.

'So are you going to tell me about last night?' Molly asks me taking a sip of her beer.

'It was fun. We went to the Shack for burgers then I took him home, that's it' I tell her before taking a sip of my beer.

'Sounds fun I guess' she says taking a drag 'So nothing exciting happened?'.

'Not really, we talked a lot and he told me about his family. Talked about surfing. It was a good time' I tell her trying to sound convincing.

It's not like I didn't want to tell her I just didn't want to get my hopes up or make a big deal out of something that might not even work out.

'Thats cool. I mean you two would be cute together. Plus you have so much in common' she says 'Like me and Jimmy. Isn't he dreamy?'

'He's more your type for sure but you guys make sense together. So what's the deal? Are things serious?' I ask her putting out my cigarette in the crystal ash tray on the table between the lawn chairs. I take another sip of my beer.
