Chapter: 50
The next morning I get dressed in my jeans and Patrick gives me a tee shirt to wear. We decide to grab breakfast. We walk out into the bright California sun and I put the top down on my car. We drive to the diner and I pull into a spot. I grab my purse and we walk in hand in hand. We sit in booth on the same side.
'Coffee?' The waitress asks us.
'Yes, thank you' I say and she pours some into our cups and I take a sip.
'So, what's the plan for the case' Patrick says to me.
I shrug 'I don't know, I think I might pay my dad a visit and check out his case files, I want to see the police reports. Then, once we know more information we can make a grid and try to connect everyone to Church of God' I say whispering the last part.
'Will he let you see them?' He asks me and then taking a sip. I was about to answer when the waitress comes back.
'What can I get ya?' She asks.
'I'll do two eggs over medium, toast and a side of fruit, thanks' I say handing her the menu.
'For you?' She asks Patrick.
'I'll take the pancakes, with a side of bacon, thank you' he says handing over the menu and she leaves.
'I think so, I don't think I could go to the office and just ask him, maybe through Willy though' I say.
'Well, well, well I am shocked you can even afford to go out for food.' A voice says.
We see Katie Howard standing there with a smile on her face. She's wearing a light yellow dress, white tights and black flats.
'Morning Katie' I say smiling, trying not to let them ruin my morning.
'Didn't see you in Church this morning, don't you know Sunday is the Lords day?' She says pointing up to the sky. Patrick looks up, confused and I hold in a giggle.
'You of all people should confess you sins, you filthy whore' she leans in and whispers.
'Honey, time to go' A man in he's 40's with brawn hair and a black suit on says.
'Sorry, daddy I was talking with some friends from school' Katie says flipping her hair and walking towards her dad.
I see Mr. Banks the school principal and Mary his daughter walking with them followed by Mr. Hart and Darcy and Molly. Darcy is wearing a light purple lace dress that is form fitting and Molly is wearing a white calf length skirt and a light pink pull over sweater. I can see she is starting to show because she has a small baby bump in her sweater. Darcy gives me a dirt look as they walk to their cars. Their fathers shake hands and they part ways.
'I guess Molly is staying with Darcy?' Patrick says.
I nod 'Yeah, her parents moved to San Francisco. I saw her mom in the grocery store and she told me that when Molly told her she was pregnant they were angry at first but told her they would always support her and the baby. Molly made it seem like her parents kicked her out, but in reality she choose to stay here with Darcy instead and refused to even talk to her parents about anything' I say.
Patrick shakes his head 'She was never like that before. What happened?' He asks.
I shrug 'I don't know, the only thing she said when I talked to her for the last time was that something happened on New Years and she was so messed up that she doesn't know the details. She blames me for making her do drugs and drink' I say to him.
'It was her coke, that night' he whispers to me and I nod I agreement.
Our food comes and we dig in.
