Chapter: 64

I give her another hug before she goes back into the house. I take Jack home and we unlock the front door after he goes potty. I fill his bowls and I set my stuff down.

I flip through the new recipes and I find nothing that is easy enough or stuff that I have. I decide to marinate some of the steaks I got the other day, make some corn, mashed potatoes and a salad. I chop up a head of lettuce, carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers and add some shredded cheese. I set the bowl in the fridge and I put the steaks in the marinade from a bottle and put them on the counter. I peel some potatoes and wash them before boiling them in a pot of water.

I walk into the living room and I put on a "LA Women" by The Doors and I turn up the volume. I grab a beer from the fridge and I open it. I take a sip and I stir the potatoes. I dance around and I let down my hair. When the potatoes are done, I drain them and I put them back into the pot. I add butter, salt, pepper, milk and garlic and I mash them until they are smooth. I put them into a bowl and I cover them with foil and I put them the oven to stay warm.

Patrick comes home a little while later and smiles when he sees me dancing in the kitchen. He grabs me from behind and spins me around.

'Hey baby' he says spinning me around.

'Hi, babe.' I say kissing him gently.

'I missed you' I say as he turns me again.

He smiles 'I missed you too, you're in a good mood' he says pulling me into his arms and I put my arms around his neck. 'Yeah work went well and Jen did amazing. It was just a good day' I say.

He kisses me again.

'Good, I'm glad. What's for dinner?' He asks.

'I have some steaks marinating if you don't mind grilling them up. I also have corn, a salad and mashed potatoes' I say. 'Sounds good, just let me change before starting the grill' he says walking into the bedroom.

I put the corn in a pot and I heat it up.

I go and change into some gym shorts and a Beatles tee shirt and I come back out into the kitchen. I stir the corn and I add some salt and pepper and butter. Patrick comes out wearing some jean short, a Bob Dylan tee shirt and his converse.

'Heres the steaks' I say handing them to him on a large serving dish.

'Thanks, baby' he says kissing me quickly.

I keep the corn on the stove on warm and I grab two more beers from the fridge.

'Beer?' I ask him and he nods.

'Always' he says.

I giggle and I open the beer for him and he takes it from me.

I sit at the table and I light a cigarette. I get up and I hold it for him so he take a drag and I take it back. I look at him and smile as I remember the night of the campout at Molly's house, when the boys were standing around grilling. We joked about the future but we were right, it was the future. Here we are almost a year later, engaged, living in our new home together and I couldn't be happier.

'What are you thinking about baby?' He asks me.

'You and how happy you make me' I say smiling.

He smiles 'Ditto, baby. This is my dream. Grilling steaks with my sexy fiancé, listening to sweet tunes, having a beer in our amazing home. Without you, this would't be possible' he says kissing me.

We break apart 'Drag please' he says and I put the cigarette in his mouth.

He takes a drag and exhales with it still in his mouth. He closes the grill and sets down the tongs on the dish. He takes another drag and then puts it out in the ash tray on the table.
