"Something happened?" Jean asked. He was leaning on the door frame of the bedroom while I'm fixing Cane's clothes. "Lemme' guess, he was there--"
"Oh, shut it, Jean." I ordered. I don't want to think about anything. I never got a chance to sleep last night so I'm in a not so good mood.
I prepared some of Cane's clothes in his bag. I told him that we're going to his grandparents. I borrowed Jean's car as I drove off to my old house.
It's gonna be the first time in a while since I saw them again. Mom was very happy but mad at the same. I kinda expected it since I hid my son from them.
But overall, they were happy and got the chance to meet Cane. Even Cane doesn't show it but he's having a good time with my Dad.
"Y/N." Mom went beside me as I was washing the dishes after lunch. She leaned on the counter and looked at me.
"I'm sorry.. I was afraid to show Cane back then." I apologized. "Even I didn't know what to do." I admitted.
She sighed and shook her head. "I'm disappointed, alright? But the past already passed, we can't change it again. I'm just relieved that both of you are safe."
I smiled and nodded as I finished the dishes. She didn't left the kitchen as I wiped my hands.
"Armin."
I stiffened when my mom voiced out Armin's name. I looked back and furrowed my brows. How did she knew him?
"He's Arcane's father, right?"
I blinked and averted my gaze. "How did you know.. him?"
She pulled out a chair and sat there. "That young man.. used to visit here." She said that stunned me. "Ever since you left.. he keeps comming here until now, he wanted to know when're you coming back." She explained and sighed. "That man is sincere.. but I never know where were you. You just said you're gonna be away for a while. Who would've thought you're already raising his child from afar."
I gripped the cloth from my hand and clenched my jaw. "Why would he even bother waiting?" I gritted and turned around to grab a glass of water.
I was just preventing myself to get hurt again. He should've known what mistake he did. He should be happy that I'm not asking something from him.
He should be happy that I'm not an obsessed woman who would beg for his love after knowing that he was just playing with me.
"Why don't you tell him--"
"No!" I snapped out. I closed my eyes and shook my head. "Cane doesn't need a father. I'm enough and as long as I can provide what my son wants, then that's all it matters."
She grimaced and stood up. She approached me and pinched my ears.
"Mom!"
"How did I even gave birth to a selfish woman like you." She said in disappointment. "Armin said a lot of things to me. You have to figure it out yourself 'cuz you're selfish." She said and walked away, waving her hands.
"Leave Cane to us. We have to make up as his grandparents." She said and hurriedly went on the garden to play with him.
I rubbed my throbbing ears as I furrowed my brows.
What Armin told him?
--
I left Cane at my parents house for a while. When I found out that Armin used to go there a lot, I decided to stay at Jean's for a while. I would be stupid to let Armin see Cane. Even a three year old could tell that those two are related.
I want to visit Historia again but I'm still clouded by the thought of Armin being there. Now that he knew that I'm here--
Why do I have to avoid him at the first place?
I want to stay Cane away from him. Even if we run to each other few times, none of us will care about that.
"Y/N..?"
I was infront of Historia's room when I turned around after hearing someone call my name. My eyes widened in realization when I saw who called me.
"Eren!"
"Y/N, it's you." He said calmly but with a hint of surprise in his voice. I chuckled and nodded.
"Yes, it's me. It's been a while." I smiled. I saw a basket of fruit in his hand. He's probably visiting Historia too. But I didn't expect to visit him.
"It's indeed.. so long," He mumbled and kept staring at me in shock. "You've changed a lot. In a good way." He said.
I smiled and shrugged. "I hear that a lot." Maybe, it's because after I gave birth, a lot of features actually changed. I didn't noticed until Pieck pointed it out.
"I.. I didn't expect you to be here.." He looked away.
Eren did changed. He looks more awkward infront of me. It's hard to define if it's really him but people changes, I guess.
"Yeah? I actually just arrived the day before yesterday. I wouldn't thought I'd run with you here. You and Historia are probably getting along." I chuckled awkwardly.
He nodded. I saw how he glanced on my hands. "I see. You're still not.."
I raised my hands and stared at it. Is he looking for a ring?
"Not at all." I laughed. "I'm not married. Nor I'm planning too." I said. I can't say that I'm focused on raising Cane but that's the case.
"Mhm." He nodded and finally smiled. "Then.. How about we go for a coffee next time. I'm sure you have a lot of things to catch up."
I nodded and accepted his calling card. "That's a good idea--"
My words got cut off when the door from Historia's room opened. I flinched when I didn't expect Armin to go out.
"Armin." Eren said with a low tone.
Armin glanced on Eren and immediately darted to me. He stared with a very cold eyes and serious look. I felt like melting on the spot if it weren't for Sasha's head, peeking on his shoulder.
"Ah, Y/N! I knew it was your voice that we heard." She said and excitedly went out. She grabbed my hand and pulled me. "Let's get inside."
"S-Sure.." I averted my gaze from Armin and let Sasha pull me. When I almost walked passed him, a set of warm hands grabbed my wrist.
I stopped from walking when my shoulder brushed against Armin's shoulder while he's holding my right wrist.
Sasha looked back and furrowed his brows. My head turned to Armin as he looked at Sasha and nodded.
"Let me borrow Y/N for a second." He said.
"What.." I muttered with soft voice and glared at Armin directly.
This man.. Is he still treating me like his toy?!
