"May I have a moment?" Jean entered.
"Yeah." I whispered and leaned on the headboard. "What's up?"
He glanced at Cane and smiled. He grabbed a chair and sat infront of me. "He really looks like him as he grow up, huh?"
"Shut up. Cane is Cane and he looks like me." I complained silently so I wouldn't wake the child up. He chuckled as his eyes went to me.
His smile fell down and averted his gaze. "Do you remember Historia?" He asked.
My forehead creased. "What.."
"Historia Rei--"
"..the fuck are you into?" I added. "Of course I do remember her? Why would I forget about her?"
"Damn, you're so mean. Don't tell me you're pregnant again?" He scratched his head and furrowed his brows.
"I'm on birth control shots. Cane is enough for me. Now what's the deal with Historia?" I asked.
I indeed didn't forgot about them. Sasha, Connie, Historia and Ymir. They were my friends so it's not that easy to forget about them.
But in this five years, I didn't have any news from them. Jean avoided to slip his tongue when talking until now.
He sighed and looked around the bedroom. "Do you plan on going back?"
I blinked and stared at him. "Are we gonna talk about that?" I asked. He didn't answered and remained looking at me. I sighed deeply and nodded.
"Probably. Arcane haven't seen his grandparents yet. But we'll always come back here. I registered Cane's citizenship here so this country is gonna be his hometown."
Jean nodded. I saw how his eyes was hesistant to talk so I voiced out.
"You know.. Ever since you left, I don't really have any connection with them anymore. Other than we run to each other."
"And your point is?"
Jean stared and shook his head. "Last week.." He paused. "Historia got into a car accident."
I stiffined and furrowed my brows confusingly. "What?"
He nodded and looked down. "I visited her before I came her and.. she was under comatose. Ymir was stressed when the doctor didn't have clue if she's gonna wake up--"
"You're lying.." I mumbled. I was lost in thoughts for a second when Jean didn't answered. He looked at me seriously and didn't said a word.
That night, I didnt got enough sleep. I was in deep thoughts about Historia getting admitted in the hospital.
I brought Cane to his school and left him with his teacher and his friends as I went straight to the work.
Since, I was absent yesterday because of the assembly that happened in Cane's school, my work was doubled as the COO.
When break time occurs, I went to Levi's office to rest and decided to skip meal for today. I slumped myself on the couch and sighed, stressfully.
Levi glanced at me and went back to his monitor. He just ignored me and was probably used to my actions.
"Hey, you said you were from my hometown, right?" I asked him. He hummed and focused on his work instead of paying attention to me.
"Do you think you can check Cane in the house while I'm gone?"
His fingers stopped in the keyboard and finally looked at me. "Why?"
I shrugged and leaned my head on the couch as I closed my eyes. "I want to visit a friend in the hospital. I'll probably be gone for long week. I can't keep letting Pieck and Yelena to babysit him."
His brow lifted as he clasped his hand on top of the table. "Then, why don't you bring him?"
My eyes opened as I grimaced at him.
I can't possibly do that. The worst part of going back there is to unite with the last person I wanted to see. The world is so small that there's a huge probability of my son running into him.
"You're just afraid that Cane's gonna meet his real father--"
"Like hell I'm gonna let that." I stood up and rolled my eyes. "I suddenly got hungry of your uselessness." I said and left the office.
-
"How's your day?" I greeted Cane as he went inside the car. I helped him put on the seatbelt."It's good." He answered. I took a glimpse of the chocolate and a paper from his hand. I couldn't help but to tease him.
"I see. You got plenty of suitors in kindergarten, huh?" I teased and started the engine. He scoffed and threw the chocolate on the dashboard.
"I don't like them. Nor the chocolates. The amount of phosphorus and potassium are bad for my health--"
"Oh yeah. I'm gonna send you to college." I joked. He nodded as if I was serious. This kid.. You can't even joke with him.
I sighed and glanced at him. "Say.. Do you want to go on the vacation when the vacation starts?"
His eyes widened as he folded the paper that turns out to be a letter from his classmate. He looked at me with glistening eyes.
I couldn't contain my smile. For the first time, he actually looks like a kid.
"Where?"
"At my hometown. You told me you want to visit there once." I said. "We can stay at your grandparents' house or your Uncle Jean's."
"I want to!" He said excitedly. "I've red it once at the atlas. I want to visit there."
I giggled and nodded. "Of course. You can tell me where you want to go." I said and looked at him. "We can go wherever you want."
"It's okay. I just want to go to your hometown." He said. As we went home, I can feel his excitement. Yelena was confused of his actions.
"What happened?" She asked.
"I'm going to my hometown to visit a friend. I'll bring Cane with me--"
"YOU ARE?!" Her eyes widened. I sat on the couch and stretched my arms as I nodded. "Are you sure?"
"Yeah.. I guess." I shrugged. "I'm still debating but.. looks like Cane really want to go. I don't want to spoil the mood so.." I shrugged.
She sighed and sat beside me. "What're you gonna do if you ran into 'him'?"
I bit my lips as the thought of seeing him makes my heart pound. "I'll make sure I won't." I whispered.
"Y/N!" Jean yelled and went downstairs as Cane followed him. "I'll borrow Cane for a while. We're gonna go shopping."
I sighed and nodded. "Yeah. Do as you
pleased. Just take care of him."
