Chapter 19: Lightning Falls

(Asta's p.o.v.)

Before we crossed the border, Liebe went back into the 5 leaf grimoire so we wouldn't cause a panic. 4 weeks after me and Liebe had arrived in Heart Kingdom, we noticed that someone was following us. I thought at the time that it was the border patrol that somehow caught wind of our entry. In my mind, Liebe and I were having a conversation about what to do about our tail. "So, what do we do about this guy?" Liebe asked. I answered, "Let's lead him into a position where we can get the drop on him, then we can ask him why he's following us." "Sounds good, even though I'm in the grimoire, getting followed by this guy is starting to creep me out, because my senses are linked to yours while I'm in here." Liebe agreed, and he's right about being creeped out by our stalker. I walked on for few more minutes and saw an abandoned mine on my left, so I turned and walked right in sit down in the entrance  hoping that whoever is following us would come right in to my line of sight. But they didn't,in fact I could sense that they were hiding in the trees, watching me. I took out my grimoire, and started to play with anti magic, making the stalker lower his guard. Then I manipulated my into a spear and threw it in the direction of where I sensed them. I intentionally made it miss them, and they lost their balance and fell out of the tree. As soon as they hit the ground, I got up, charged toward them and grabbed them before they escaped. They turned their head to face me and i saw that it was a young boy roughly my age with brown hair and blue eyes. I asked, "Who are you?" "Miche, I'm with Heart Kingdom's military." The boy answered. "Why were you following me?" He nervously replied, "I can't say." Unfortunately, with Geto's army on the way, I had no time to waste on a tedious argument. I drew my sword and told him, "Listen, either you tell me, or I'll neuter you and force your testicles down your throat, you understand?!!" He got scared and nodded violently. He then began to tell me why he was trailing me. Apparently, it was because the queen saw me just as I was slipping out of the border through her magic, and she had been monitoring the borders closely ever since. Then, when she saw me coming back to Heart, she sent some of her mages to follow me to see what I'm doing in her kingdom. When he finished explained his mission, I knocked him out and made a beline towards the capital. Because of my training at jujutsu academy, my physical abilities, including my running speed, had skyrocketed past what I had 3 years ago. I managed to clear a 20 mile distance in half an hour.

I was about half way to the capital when someone appeared in front of me in a flash of lightning, it made me stop. I recognized the man before me, he was there at the prison me and Liebe were dispatched to. I believe his name was Gaja. "The queen would like speak with you, so please come with me." Gaja said to me. I replied, "No thanks, the mere sight royalty makes me want to vomit." Gaja obviously didn't like my reply, because he looked mad. "Very well, then I'll bring you in by force." He said. I replied, "I don't have time to play with you, so I'll kick your ass quickly." I pulled the demon slayer out of my grimoire and entered my fighting stance. I saw that a circle of runes were formed behind Gaja, which told me he was about to attack.

True Lightning Magic: Tenjiolia

A lightning bolt was shot from his right hand and came right at me. I took a step forward and did a downward slash, cutting the spell in half. This shocked Gaja, so decided to launch numerous simultaneous attacks at once, but before his attacks finished charging, I rushed toward him at blinding speed and struck him in the abdomen, the pain stunned him, but he wasn't down for the count yet. So, I raised the demon slayer brought it down at full force onto his shoulder, rendering him unconscious. I wasn't going to kill him, after all my mission is save human life, not end it. I just left him there and moved on toward the capital.

I just watched the fight between Gaja and ash haired man, and I was shocked to see that Gaja was defeated so easily. "Loropechka, this boy seems to be headed for the capital, it could be that he's come to assassinate you." A giant woman wrapped in a dress of water said to me. "I doubt that, Undine. If he was an assassin, why didn't he try to leave the country when his cover was blown? He also said to Gaja that he had no time, so he knocked him out and continued running here. Plus, he also said he couldn't stand the sight of a royal, why would he come to assassinate me if he wants nothing to do with me.  No, it seems to me he's on some urgent mission. So for now let's keep watching him until we see why he's here." Undine nodded. Though there was one thing I couldn't get out of my mind, "Why does that man look so familiar?" Undine snapped me out of my thoughts my thoughts and said, "Loropechka, did you hear me? I said 'We can't just leave Gaja out there." Apparently, she was trying to get my attention while I was deep in thought. I answered her, "Right!. Sorry, I was lost in thought. I'll contact the Spirit Guardian closest to Gaja." And I did, I told them to find Gaja and bring him back for treatment.
