I never sleep over with a guy. It's one of my rules, that I am very good at following. Keeps them from getting attached since I know the feeling would be one sided.
I didn't feel like going home yet so I start walking in the direction of the park. It's not very far from Jason's.
It's a cool night but with the alcohol still in my system still working to keeping me warm, it's not too bad. I light a cigarette as I walk and it doesn't take me very long to finish it.
Once there, I look towards the hiking trail and decide against going into the woods. I sit on one of the swings and light another cigarette. Taking a long hit, I lean back and slowly exhale watching the smoke rise into the sky. I smoke too much when I drink.
When I put my head back down I notice a guy in a grey hoody watching me. I jump almost falling off the swing and mutter "Fuck."
"Jesus, guy. Don't you know you aren't supposed to sneak up on people? Almost gave me a heart attack" I say, holding my chest, feeling my heart pounding away.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you," He says, his voice was deep but soft.
"What are you doing here?" I question.
"I could ask you the same thing."
"Touche." I nod my head taking another drag to calm my still hammering heart.
"Can I sit?" He asks, nodding towards the swing next to me.
"Go for it." I shrug my shoulders. It was too dark and he was too far away for me to see his face under his hood, but I knew how to defend myself were he to try anything.
As he slowly walks closer his face gradually comes into view, although still dark and not completely clear. He was good looking from what I could tell.
He had to be taller than six feet tall, strong jaw, and he had pale eyes. I couldn't tell exactly what color they were but they were bright under his dark eyebrows.
He pulls out a cigarette and starts patting the pockets of his sweatshirt and jeans. I pull my lighter out and hold it out to him.
He looks up and mutters a thanks. "I must have forgotten mine in my car." He says, handing my lighter back to me. As I take it from him my fingers brush his and I feel how warm he is.
My body shivers suddenly realizing how cold it has gotten, and my buzz is starting to wear off.
"Cold?" He asks.
"A little, I don't normally make a habit of sitting outside in dresses." I shrug, laughing lightly.
"So what was the occasion tonight?"
"A party. My friends dressed me. Can't say it would've been my first choice." I shrug again and take the last couple drags of my cigarette before putting it out and sticking it back in my pack.
I notice him staring. "You know it's not nice to stare."
"Why'd you do that?" He asks.
"Do what?"
"Put the butt back in your pack." He nods his head towards the cigarettes still in my hand.
"I stick it in there until I come along a garbage." I shrug. "Kids play out here during the day. Don't want one sticking it in their mouth or something."
"I suppose that makes sense," He pauses before continuing, "and for the record, you do look good even if you look like you're freezing. Would you like a sweatshirt? I've got an extra in my car."
"I feel like a kid being asked if i want some candy." I laugh and hear a in low chuckle come from him as he shakes his head.
"Unfortunately I don't have any candy."
