We are stopped at a red light when Dillon turns slightly to talk. "Are you hungry?"
"I could eat." I reply. He nods his head before turning back forward just as the light turns green. I tighten my grip again and lean against him.
A few minutes later we pull up in front of a Mexican restaurant. Before cutting the engine, Dillon asks, "Do you like Mexican?"
"Absolutely!" I reply, and he gives me his hand to help me off of his bike before swinging his own leg over. I take my helmet off and hand it to him. He takes it and sticks it in the saddlebag.
He grabs my hand and pulls me towards the restaurant. Once we are seated I grab the menu and try deciding what I want.
"I think I know what I want." I say looking up. Dillon was just sitting there staring at me. "What?" I ask, shifting slightly.
"You look beautiful."
"Thank you." I smile. It was strange receiving a genuine complement and not just another pick up line. Thinking about it now, I really don't remember the last time I was taken on an actual date. If ever.
"You chew on the inside of your lip when you're thinking." I realize then that I was in fact unconsciously chewing on the inside of my lip. I quickly stop.
"I guess I do." I pause before continuing. "So tell me about you."
"What do you want to know?" He asks.
"Everything. Anything. I don't know. I don't really know how these things go." I say laughing nervously.
"Well that really narrows it down." He laughs.
"How about we start simple? Middle name?"
"Xavier. Yours?"
"Oh I like that! Dillon Xavier Hunt, very handsome. Mine is just Ann. Very simple."
"Beautiful."
"Okay, your turn to ask something."
"Hmm, wh-" He starts before getting cut off by the waitress. She sets a basket of chips down on the table with some salsa before asking for our orders.
Dillon nods to me indicating that I should order first. "I will have the carne asada with a chicken quesadilla."
"I'll have the fajitas." When she walks away, he continues. "What do you plan on doing once you graduate?"
"That's a good one. I don't really have any idea, honestly. I just know I want to get out of this town as fast as possible."
"Why's that?"
"I don't really have anything to hold me here."
"What about your parents?"
"There would be no love lost with my mom, and I've never known who my dad is. I don't think my mom even has an idea. What about you?"
"Well eventually what I really want is to open my own shop. I'm just working on working my way up and learning as much as I can from Bobo."
"He's good people." I say smiling at the mention of his boss.
"Yes he is."
We eat our food in comfortable silence for awhile before we continue getting to know each other.
"Are you an inside or outside kind of person?" I ask.
"Outside. You?"
"Outside, definitely." I really should've guessed that one.
"Movies or books?" He asks.
"That's a hard one. I love movies but I really like a good book, too. So that is a toss up."
