No Coming Back

The group was inside the warehouse now. Some clung to their weapons while others went up into their rooms and began to pack anything they would need. The only thing Garrett needed was his Colt on his side and the M4 he held in his hands.

The stock of the M4 was a hard machine made metal, it was ideal for bashing in skulls of the dead when they came. He had taken the trigger mechanism  apart and polished it for a smoother release. The bullets he would be using were nothing special. They had been manufactured by some poor soul who could only wish to use them now. The shock of the bullet hitting it's target would cause as much damage as the bullet itself. The rifle would reload itself as fast as he could fire it, but he would only need a single shot to put a Walker down, or in this case, to end another life.

It was truly amazing to him to see Deanna and Kenny walk away from this place without looking back. Garrett felt a pain, it doesn't hurt as a cut or a bruise would. It's just this heavy feeling. His head spun and it felt like his tongue felt too big for his own mouth. You felt the need to wipe away non-existent tears that he believed were coming from his eyes, but none were there.

All he wanted to do was take a gun and place the cool metal down his throat, pull the trigger, which would shoot away the pain.

Davie and Brian, the two brothers found their way to him. The three of them knelt behind a section of Wooden planks someone quickly threw together earlier in the day. Each of the brothers were carrying AR-15's, an assault rifle with about a 30 round clip.

"What are we even waiting for?" Brian seemed to ask Davie as he double checked the clip of his AR. "We have a better chance of fighting out there."

"Quiet." Garrett told him calmly and both brothers looked at him. He heard something, something that broke the silence of the warehouse. An engine sound.

That's when the wall in front of them seemed to collapse and brick pieces flew to the ground. The semi's that David had, he ordered them to crash into the building, making more spaces where his men could enter the warehouse other than the doors.

As the dust settled and everyone inside the warehouse froze, they didn't know what would happen next. Then gunfire erupted from the dust ad bullets began to whiz over their heads. Thankfully no one was hit with the first wave of bullets. Most got behind cover and some fell to the floor, too slow to get to cover.

The group inside the warehouse quickly returned the fire, sending bullets back to David's people. Then there was an enormous explosion. It was as though a fist of orange flame had decided to punch it's way into the warehouse, behind them. Windows shattered. Smoke and fire rushed in. Thousands of pieces of glass and steel, a deadly rainfall, showered down.

Garrett felt the shock wave as clear day, then as he looked behind him. A huge chunk had been taken out of the back and the roof of the warehouse. The concussion of the blast seemed to shake his soul. What had happened?

"Jesus....no..." Davie gasped as Garrett turned his head to look at what was the matter. It was Brian, he had a metal pole in his chest. It was as wide as his own arm and was as long as a yard stick.

Garrett looked out to where David's people had been coming, most of them were thrown to the ground by the explosion. They also looked shocked at the event that had just unfolded. Small fires have started due to the explosion towards the back of the warehouse.

Not wasting time looking for his M4, Garrett quickly un-holstered his colt and shot two of the people that were closest to him. He heard an order from outside the building, it was clearly David, "Fall back! The dead are coming!" He saw three or four more of David's people run out through a hole in the wall, he didn't fire a shot at them. He turned back towards Davie who was knelt down at his brother's side.
