The CDC is gone, along with Jenner and Jackie. The group never saw her get out of the building. Everyone was feeling the same, angry, dis trot, hopeless. It's all the same, they almost died. They came all the way down here and almost died. Weather it was to die by a Walker or to die from an explosion it was all the same, dying was dying, it just depended on how you wanted to go.
They have left Chris's truck at the CDC because it was out of gas; Garrett, Lucas and Deanna now ride in Shane's jeep with him driving. Riding in Shane's jeep isn't the most comfortable ride Garrett thinks to himself as he rides in the passenger seat with the window blowing in his hair. Shane's jeep does not have a roof, or any doors, which could be dangerous regardless of the Walkers being able to reach in. The only thing that would keep the four of them safe is the roll cage that surrounds them.
"I remember when I was a teenager." Shane babbled on, Garrett really had no idea what he was talking about he hasn't really been attention. It' not like he could hear him in the first place due to the wind blowing in his ear. He had to take his hat off and put it between his legs to keep it from blowing off. Though it does feel nice with the wind in his air, it is getting quite annoying.
Deanna soon joins the conversation from the back, "How old are you anyway?"
"Thirty-four sweetheart." He laughed. "I've been around the block a time or two and could show all of you some life lessons and maybe a little bit of fun while we are at it." He winks at Deanna from the rear-view mirror.
Shane wasn't a bad person, Garrett thought to himself. He actually likes the guy, he is just a different person. He could actually be the leader of this group, he is strong enough. Garrett just doesn't think he is smart enough. Something seems to be driving Shane, driving him to live but he just can't put his finger on it. Maybe it was the fact that Rick was his best friend. That's why Garrett is alive, for his friends. He wouldn't be living if it wasn't for them.
"As much as I love hearing this conversation you guys are having, maybe you should look to your left." Lucas suggested pointing in the direction. Not just one, not just ten, but hundreds of Walkers seem to be in a field that they are passing, some close enough that you could tell what color hair they had. Others looked like little dots on a map because they were so far away.
No one was playing attention to the as suddenly they slam into a stray Walker. The Walker was so heavy is brings the jeep to a stop. The other cars just seem to keep going, like they don't even know what has happened and they probably don't.
"Shit....." Shane gasped from the driver seat. "Everybody alright?"
"I'm fine." Lucas muttered from the back, sounding like she was pissed.
"I'm okay." Deanna chimed in.
"Shane...." Garrett pointed towards the field with the Walkers. "You need to get us out of here, now!" The swarm of Walkers stumbles closer and closer to the four of them.
Shane goes to start up the jeep again, it sounds like it is gonna start, then it just dies. "Fuck." He mumbles as he turns the ignition again and the same thing happens. "Come on you piece of shit...." He tries it one more time and this time nothing happens.
"We are gonna die....." Deanna gasped looking at the herd of on coming Walkers.
"No." Garrett scrambled as he unbuckles his seat belt and jumps out of his seat. He grabs the gun bag that was on the floor by his feet and sling it on his back. "Come on, we are running."
Fighting wasn't Garrett's specialty. He got in a few fights when he was in middle school, but he lost more than he won. He wasn't the fastest person, never joined the track team in school, never considered himself the fastest person in school. The thing he did play in school was soccer, center mid-fielder. He had the stamina and he had the speed. Why fight when he can run?
