The forest was one of those places which had no palpable reason to exist. It was a creaking shack created by nature to serve as a reminder that things could always be much, much worse. The unnatural, choking mist that swirled and sprawled on the forest floor in the morning was the first thing that spoke of a strange sort of wrongness. They weren't supposed to be out here. But yet here they were. The sound of mushy and dead leaves whispered from under the skin of the mist.
Dylan has seen a misty, foggy morning like this before many times. After being discharged from the Marine Corps, Dylan spent many of his days out in the wilderness like this. He would picked up his chainsaw and head back to the truck after a hard days work. Even though his got used to his back aching and his shoulders being on fire, his spirits were usually high, especially on the a Friday. If it was Friday night he and his crew would go back to town. There would be plenty of booze for them, women to hit on and occasionally take one home. It's what he lived for during the week.
He figured it was probably around thirty degrees. He would look back every other minute or so to make sure the others were keeping up, they were. But Lilly and Jessica were shaking with shrives of it being so cold.
He spit on the ground. The sun was barely in the sky when he got the others up to get ready to move out. Lilly was the only one to curse him, she wasn't a morning person.
Stroking his lumberjack beard, he swung the AK in his hands onto his back. Then he fixed the strap which at first was uncomfortable to him, but has grown used to it. "I always enjoy the early morning in the woods." He smirked looking back again.
"I'm glad somebody does." Lilly retorted, she was pissed to be out here. She was pissed to be cold. She was pissed to be up. She was pissed at nearly everything and everybody.
In the mist she stared at the shadows of the trees in front of them. She took the bond she had with her grandfather for granted. She believed that Garrett would somehow save her grandfather, but he didn't and now he was most likely dead now. She wanted to beg, plead, get down on her knees and just look up at the sky and wait for some answer.
When she continued walking she could hear Dylan continue to talk about something. She wished that he would stop and just shut up already. She started to transition into a person she never wanted to be.
Jessica held the book of Revelation in her hand as she continued to walk along following Dylan and Lilly who were in front of her. The book was the only thing she managed to get out of the warehouse. She wasn't afraid of guns, she just didn't need one. As long as other people were around, they would help her if she needed it. But with the word of God, she would be fine.
She flipped the book open as she walked because she felt sick to her stomach. "Who testified to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw." She stopped reading to look ahead to make sure she didn't run into anything. Then she went back to reading. "Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near."
"The time is near alright." William uttered from behind her. She thought she only spoke loud enough for herself to hear.
William wasn't the type of person to bash someone's religion like Dylan. He respected what she believed in. If this was the type of thing that kept her alive, then why should he bash it?
He didn't know whether he believed on not. It was easy not to anymore.
"Hey!" Dylan yelled out in a loud whisper to get everyone's attention. He pointed with his hand out in front of him as he swung his AK-47 back to his front and into his hands. As the others stared, they saw a faint view of shadows start to form, in shapes of tents. It was a camp.
