(Three Years ago, Day Seven through Ten; Interviewee has forgotten how many days after the outbreak it has been)
He knew what he had to do, watching the clock as the second hand passes the six on the clock for a second time. It was dark outside, the clock read 4:24 in the morning. Garrett was the only one awake inside the RV. He woke up about an hour ago, hearing the door close. He figured someone had just come back from using the bathroom outside.
Outside the window, above them, blanketed the blackest of black night skies. So pure and cold, death couldn't cause it any harm. Embedded into it, twinkled pure crystalline stars, like someone had gone and planted each and every diamond so we could all just admire their stunning natural beauty.
Garrett always liked looking up at the sky at night. He love that he could see star, after star, after star, a never ending void of light that projects no means of guidance in his eyes. The complicated configurations and patterns of light which have taken years to be seen by the average naked eye. He always thought that the perfect end to a night to some date he was on would end perfectly looking up at the stars. It was somewhat romantic to him, but all that has changed now.
Mitchel was the only one not sleeping inside the RV. He decided to stay outside to be close to the reanimated Torri.
Looking at the group with some sleeping close to each other, and others sleeping away from each other. Garrett looked around for Deanna, she usually slept close to him at night. But not this night. She laid close to Kenny. Kenny was always a ladies man, he always seemed to do the right thing or say the right thing.
Maybe he dressed the right way with his loose black silk shirt with brown cargo shorts. Maybe it was the way he looked; his rich chocolate hair that had tousled griminess which promised finesse. He had strong arched brows and eyelashes. Garrett has heard the girls at school talk about his eyes, they were deep and catastrophic, a vivid baby blue as a great body of water. Kenny was clearly the best looking guy in the group, hands down.
He snapped out of his thought. Why did he care who Deanna got together with? Perhaps Dale was right, he still did have feelings for her deep inside. He grabbed his colt out of his holster and pushed the thoughts in his head aside. He was going to but a bullet in Torri's head.
Suddenly there was a scream from outside and the entire RV seemed to wake up at once. The scream tore through Garrett like a great shard of glass. I felt my eyes widen and pulse quicken, my heart thudding like a rock rattling in box.
"Son of a bitch...." Daryl fumbled getting up and grabbing his crossbow that was near him. "Mitchel." He flew out the door with the others following close behind until they got to where Mitchel and Torri were.
Torri's reanimated body laid lifeless on the ground. The dagger was small and with it's plain wooden handle. It was from the set of kitchen knives that belonged in Dale's RV. It stuck out from Torri's head. Someone had killed the Walker. It looked as if the Walker was sleeping, if they sleep. Nobody had attempted to move her, not even Mitchel who hung over her body with his pistol in his hands.
He was a ticking time bomb now. Any provocation, no matter how small or insignificant and his temper would blow. Mitchel was enraged, they could all see the fire in his eyes. Garrett placed a hand on his holstered colt just in case things got out of hand.
"Mitchel...." Rebecca slowly spoke walking forward. "I'm sorry..."
"Don't." Mitchel spoke one word coldly and the whole group stopped breathing for a millisecond. He looked up at the others. To describe his facial expression would be like describing a blank sheet of paper. No color, and blank. He seemed like he knew exactly what he was doing. "This, this right here, this is murder." He used his pistol to point at the body of his girlfriend on the ground.
