(Three Years Before the Interview, Day 1)

As the sun light peers into his bedroom, it hits Garrett right in the face making him groan. The night before he was up studying, nearly the entire night, just for his finals. It was his last year in high school, he was a Senior and about to graduate, hopefully with flying colors. His parents are out of town, they have been going all over the world recently. He has really never been able to go because of school and his job at the local car dealership as the manager for the prep shop. But, if he passed all his classes and got an A on every single final he had. His parents would pay for him to go on vacation with them. Sort of a graduation present he thought to himself.

His alarm clock finally starts to squawk, god he hated that noise. The sound of a rooster in an alarm clock. If he ever found out the guy that came up with that idea he would for sure kill him. He opens his eyes and slowly sits up on the edge of his bed. Sleeping for only three hours isn't that fun, he thought to himself as he once again slowly got up and headed for the bathroom.

Maybe a nice cold shower would wake him up so he could start the day. He undresses rather quickly and steps into the shower, not thinking clearly he twists the knob to the freezing setting and lets the water flow out onto his sleepy body. "Fuck!" He exclaimed as he immediately jumps out of the way of the water. "Last time I'm doing that." He turns the knob so that the arrow is in the red. Then he goes back into it.

He gets in and out of the shower and dressed rather quickly yet again. He is shocked by how fast he is moving today. Nothing could possibly stop him from his finals and then his vacation. He gets into the kitchen and puts some bread in the toaster. He then walks to the refrigerator and opens it, to his surprise, the fridge is warm. "Really?" He knows the fridge is old, almost as old as him. If his parents spent enough money on things for the house and less money for trips they might have a new fridge, oven, microwave, dishwasher, dryer and washer. God, all the stuff in the house was old, from like the 80s. He wished for new things, like a new coffee pot so it wouldn't take forever to make coffee. Putting those matters aside, he travels back over to the toaster and takes the bread out and eats it un-toasted, he didn't care. Then he grabs a bag of pop tarts and walks into the other room and sits down.

He grabs the remote and turns the television on. “This is not a test." The TV blared. "Please, grab anything you need and go to the nearest Red Cross station near you. You will receive directions there." The mechanical voice begins to repeat itself over and over again. Just a voice, no picture.

He flips it to CNN to see what is going on. "A virus has completely destroys several major counties in the world and is growing rapidly." A young lady said, maybe in her late 20s. She is not a regular on this channel. "At this point of time we know of only one method of killing the creatures, you are to destroy the brain. Be on the guard of any love ones who have come in resent contact with the infected, and if you found yourself in a threatening position, please do not hesitate to act. This is not a test, this is not a joke. Please report to your closest Red Cross Station.” The reporter said as the TV went black.

Garrett just sits there in his chair. What the hell is going on? He thought to himself. Destroy the brain? Infected? What does it all mean?

Still just sitting there, he grabs his cell phone and calls his buddy, Dave in Pittsburgh. Garrett gets a busy signal. "Bull, Dave doesn't talk to anybody on his phone." He then tries to call him again. Again he gets the same busy signal. Then he tries to call his classmate and best friend, Mitchel, but, the same thing happens.

Suddenly, a there is a slam against the door that leads to outside. Then something that sounds like knocking. His eyes are now wide as he throws his phone onto the couch which is adjutant to him. He slowly gets up and walks over to the door. He knows the door is locked, but just by the handle, not the door bolt. The closer he gets he can make out a figure. A humanized shape through the curtain. He gets to the door and removes the curtain so that he can see. It's his neighbor, or what was his neighbor. There is blood dripping from his mouth, and his eyes are yellowish. His skin seemed to be decaying. Looking more at this terrifying creature that was once his neighbor, he sees that there is a bite mark on his neck. The body from his neck must have poured down onto his shirt, staining it. Garrett and the creature suddenly lock eyes, and the thing shows its yellow and redish teeth to Garrett. Not knowing what he is seeing, Garrett quickly locks the bolt of his door, hoping that will hold the creature who has begun to ram against the door. Garrett looks outside and sees that his neighbor isn't the only one out there, there are other people, and they seem to be attacked to the noise his neighbor is making by ramming the door.
