They have underestimated the cold night. During the day it was warmer, especially with the sun shining down on them as they walked along the road. Now that night has settled, the cloudless sky showed the stars above them and all the heat seemed to escape into space.

The cold that had seemed mild at first now numbed Garrett's face and extremities. What residual heat he had absorbed from the sun during the day was gone, it had been his buffer, but unwittingly he had thought that the light jacket he had on would do the trick, but he was wrong. Not even the boots he had on saved any heat for his feet.

With each breath more heat rose in puffs of white vapor, with each gust of the wind more heat dissipated into the whiteness.

The group was weaponless, food-less, and water-less. Moral was at an all-time-low. Through the moonlight, they can see a car, abandoned in the middle of the road. The silver gray Mercedes S600 didn't look like it once did as it sat there. It was facing the way that they came, wanting to travel back to the warehouse, but there was nothing left to go back too.

Out of the moonlight, suddenly a figure stands up from the ground and begins to stagger towards them at a slow pace. It was a Walker.

"I got it." Lucas hissed as she got out in front of the group and started towards the Walker. The moan and the growls suddenly become intense as Lucas walks closer to the rotting corpse. She quickly kicks the Walker in the knee cap, and the sound of breaking bones fill the quiet air. The Walker topples over onto the ground in the result of the broken knee Lucas has given it. Before the creature even had time to try to get back on its feet Lucas stomps its head in with her boots and a bloody mess splatters onto the asphalt. "We need weapons." She glanced over at Garrett.

"We'll find something." He tried to reassure her.

"We better."She looked back down at the Walker and removed her foot from the mess she had made. "We can take two or three, but when we run into a bigger number....we'll be fucked."

"I know." He sounded annoyed now and Lucas left the situation alone.

Garrett stepped closer to the car. There was no life here. That was simple, no thriving population, but there were signs that either Walkers or people have been here.

It was impossible to see into the car because of the dust and the darkness that seemed to be eating away at the vehicle. He gets to the door of the car and opens it up and immediately jumps back, making sure that there was nothing in there that would come at him. But there was nothing in there. He turns back to the others that gather around behind him. "We camp here for the night. Myself and Davie will take first watch." He walks over to the back door of the car and opens it and motions the children to get inside; which they do.

He shuts the door and gets pulled aside by Lucas. "You sure Davie is ready to stay on watch?" She whispered. She was concerned with the fact that he had just lost his brother only hours ago.

"Hes got to be ready." Garrett watched as Oscar got in the driver side of the car and shut the door. "Besides, I think the girls will sleep better knowing you are with them."

She looks at the ground. "You know that Doug is dead right?"

"You can't be sure."

"I am!" She slammed her foot on the ground and looked up at him. She stops herself and breaths in and out, calming herself. "Alright." She swallowed hard. She turned away from him and walked to the passenger side of the car and got in and shut the door.

Davie and Garrett were alone with the car in the middle of the street. The moonlight showed no buildings near by, just endless forest.

Davie sat down with his back against the car. Silence hung in the air like a dense fog. He put his hands up to his forehead and sat there as Garrett looked around and then joined him by his side.
