You only crawled back into bed, even though there was still a lot of sun left on this late summer day. It's not like you slept, but you were in the constant state of in between. It wasn't until the sunset that you heard your door open, no knock.

"(Y/n), are you awake?"

It was Ulric who came to check on you. You look back and meet his hazel eyes and look over his large frame that filled your door. Rubbing your eyes, you roll your body over so to not strain your neck.

"I'm up." you whisper, dropping your gaze to the floor.

"May I come in?" asks Ulric.

You nod, pulling the blankets up to your ear as he entered and shut the door. He hulks to your bed, sitting down, causing the mattress to sink from his weight. You startle a little but he just pats your leg and smiles wide at you.

"Ama has told Sana and I about the king." Ulric says, his smile shrinking. "We're sorry, (Y/n)-"

"Don't be Ulric. We never expected this... But with how things are going- did Ama tell you of the king's plan to tell Kou we're engaged to ward off more marriage proposals from them?" you inquire of Ulric.

"I thought that Ja'far-sama was gonna-" started Ulric.

"I thought he would protect me too. But the king is dead set. Ja'far even admitted I was trapped... The king won't let me leave..."

"... If only I hadn't suggested to come here. You wouldn't be suff-"

"I'm not suffering, Ulric. That king will not make me suffer. Right now, he's merely an immense hurdle that I can't jump over... I'll have to knock him down to get over him..."

"Well, at least you got a plan. Or maybe motivation to not give up is a better why to put it. I couldn't have picked a better king to follow."

Ulric pats your leg once more.

"Are you going to come eat?" He asks.

"I probably should- I haven't eaten since last night." You answer, sitting up and removing the covers.

"We're all meeting in Sana's room in 15 minutes- so no rush. I still have to clean up myself. I just wanted to make sure your resolve wasn't too busted."

"Pfft, well thanks for the concern, Ulric... but really, I appreciate you coming by. I haven't been able to see you much since this all started."

"It's ok. You've had your hands full. Just know I'll be around for you, even when no one else is."

He pats your head, getting up from the bed. The bed rises back into it's usual form as he walks to the door. Ulric offers you one more big smile.

"I'll see you at Sana's in a little."

He closes the door.

"K..." you say, feeling a little lightened by your friend's concern.

Tonight, you were once again surrounded by your friends. Ulric to your left, Ama and Sana on your right. The meal was just as eventful as the night before and you wondered if this country was always festive. You were surprised the people weren't overweight. Then again, it seemed the people were always active, so it may have cancelled out.

"(Y/n) guess what I learned today?" Sana called from the other side of Ama.

You giggle, slowly sipping a glass of wine, then retorting, "What did you learn, Sana?"

"That I'm a type a type two magician- just like Yam-sama!" she cheered. You didn't really know what that meant, but she elaborated anyway. "It means my specialty is water magic, and with Yam-sama being the same, she's able to help me better!"

"Oh, wow, well that's great! I'm glad for you." you smile and then she turns to Yam again.

"What about you Ulric? Ama? How was your training?" you ask the men beside you.

"I worked with Spartos and Sharrkan today." Ama said, taking another bite of food.

"I worked with Hinahoho-san." Ulric said. "He's a very funny old man."

"Oh really?" you urge.

"Yeah, so let me tell you about this," Ulric begins.

For once, he's the most talkative. Maybe it was to distract you from the king's frequent stares to you, and even from Ja'far and Masrur who sat on either side of him. Or maybe it was because you hadn't actually talked to him in some time.

Either way you were interrupted when the king stood. Everyone looked at him, curious, including your group. He looked at everyone before cupping his glass of wine, and raising it slightly.

"So, it's been one full day since our new friends have joined us here in the Sindrian palace." the king began. "A few of you generals have already began to help these young adventurers train to be better household vessels- to be strong enough to protect their king candidate. Today, I began to help Miss (y/n) train on how to use her metal vessel properly. We have a long road ahead of us, but we've all seen potential. Sadly, though, I must already call on them for a favor."

Everyone mutters under their breath, looking from him to us. The king lets them, smiling in their suspense and somewhat your own. Then, everyone finally quiets and looks to their king.

"Miss (Y/n)," the king addresses you and you freeze. "Would you care to stand?"

Shakily, you did so, bracing yourself with your hands on the table. Both Ulric and Ama lay their hands over yours, their warmth easing you just a little. The king raises his glass higher.

"Miss (Y/n) and I will be going to the Kou empire to settle some things between the country. She will be going as my fiancé." The king states, smiling easily with his eyes closed.

You blushed heavily as everyone at the table gasped and froze in utter shock. The best reaction was from Hinahoho who choked on whatever he was consuming and then smiled between you and the king. He was the only one smiling though as everyone else looked to you with what seemed to be worry, wonder, and pity.

"My king, Sinbad, perhaps you should elaborate more-" you tried, but the king smirked dangerously.

"(Y/n), you may call me Sinbad seeing as how you are my wife to be." The king cooed, his eyes telling you that you had to comply and you paled.

Hinahoho guffawed, slapping a meaty hand on the table before looking to his king and hooting, "Good ol' Sinbad is gonna settle down! So when did you two decide this? I have to say, I'm surprised it's not someone more known, but she is a cute sturdy choice! She'd be a strong mother."

You squeaked but before you could say anything Ja'far stood up, slapping his hands on the table. He gave the king a disgusted glare and shook his head disapprovingly before he dropped it.

Looking back up and looking at everyone he said in a strong voice, "This marriage proposal isn't real. It's only something we're using to keep Kou from pestering the king and using the king's decline of marriage proposals for war. Miss (y/n) and king Sinbad are no way bound; it's an act. Please, I apologize for the king's desire to fool you all."

Everyone sighed and sweat dropped in relief and slight annoyance. It's not that they didn't approve of you, but they knew you wouldn't be happy in that position. Hinahoho was the only one who pouted aside from the king himself. Sinbad actually dumped his wine on Ja'far with a look of 'I'll make you pay.' Ja'far looked down at you, who had yet to regain color.

Yam leaned across Sana and Ama, telling you, "If you need me to drug the king, let me know at any point. We're all on your side. I'll arrange for myself to go along this trip so that I'm available to you at any time."

You exhale, feeling hollowed, answering, "Thank you Yam-sama. I will probably need it."

"So no little princes and princesses yet." Hinahoho grumbles, stabbing his food.

He glares at the king, then shoots a bite of meat at him with his fork. The king "gahs" absolutely shocked before turning to Hinahoho. Sinbad sweatdrops, his mouth slightly opening before he rubs the back of his head. Hinahoho is not happy and shoots another morsel at him. Everyone laughs as it hits Sinbad in the forehead, leaving a mark.

"Hinahoho! Come on! I told you I was never going to marry! Besides, (y/n) would never agree to marry me- I'd never be so lucky."

You glare at the king, beginning to eat again. Everyone laughs once more, even Masrur smiles. It doesn't reach you though, because you knew if it wasn't for Ja'far, Sinbad would've probably trapped you in a marriage. It was nice to know everyone would help you to stop their devious, demented king.

You were going to be your own king.
