Despite how desperate you were to master your Djinn equip, you still didn't have it done by the time you'd seen the port of Sindria. Sinbad and you watched it from the steering deck, him holding you close from behind. It was just a shape, but you knew you only had hours left.
All day you hadn't been feeling well. You felt clammy and everything was flipping and tight and hurt. These sensations were making you very nauseous.
"Please, at least until you master-" Sinbad whispers.
"The moment we dock, we're through." you grit through your teeth, turning around.
You look into his eyes as fiercely as you could, given how you were feeling. Sinbad's eyes sadden and he holds you to him again, tightly. His lips against your hair moving slightly.
You felt cold and nauseous, and you wanted to cry. So you pushed away from Sinbad, kissing him quickly and fiercely before disappearing below deck. This should've ended when Ama told him because it all hurts so much more now.
Running down the stairs towards Ama's room, you just so happened to bump into him. You wrap yourself around him and instantly start crying. He sighs and walks back to his room, holding you close under his arm.
"(Y/n), honey, if you love him so much-" Ama began once you entered the room.
"If I stay with him I'll just be stuck here! We have to get our own country, I promised!" you shout between sobs.
"I want you to be happy, and you are far from that right now." states Ama.
"It's ju-ust a h-heartbreak. I know obtaining m-my own king-dom will make me happy. I-I want to have people s-see me and desire me as their king. I h-have to be a king!" you sob out, sliding down the wall with your head in your hands.
"... Will you be able to take this though? You still haven't mastered your Djinn and he will not let you leave until you do. That means you still have to practice with him, (Y/n), and I don't want you to just hurt-"
"I-I can do it. I can do it. It will happen very soon and we will leave. And one day, I'll come back a king and everything will be healed."
"... Whatever you say, my king."
You stayed there with Ama until you heard from the crew that you were almost to the dock. The two of you emerged, then, moving up on deck to where the others were. It had been a long day and you just wanted to get off this damned boat.
Sinbad, though, wanted nothing more than to summon Focalor and push the ship back. Especially when you didn't come stand by him, choosing to stand as far as you could with Ama between you. He suppresses his childish, possessive behavior and tries to accept there would no longer be a you and him.
The people were cheering for their king on the docks, and you looked among the crowd. Ama pointed out where Sana and Ulric were and you both waved down to them. Soon, you hoped, the four of you would be off on your next adventure.
The boat docked and everyone began unloading. You and Ama walked off the boat to be embraced by Sana and Ulric. Sana immediately began asking way too many questions and Ulric just laughed, urging her to wait until we returned to the castle.
"I actually have something big to talk to you all about." you tell them. "So let's do what needs to be done quickly, and we'll meet in my room, alright?"
"Oh, okay!" Sana chirps.
"Sounds good." Ulric nods.
Now there is no turning back.
The four of you sat in your room, sitting on your bed. Sana laid with her head in your lap and the boys were sprawled out in other ways. You let them talk your ears off first, eliminating any distractions for when you tell them what's going to happen.
Finally Sana finishes a story Ulric had began and you clap your hands together once. They all look at you, peaceful smiles on their face. It was so nice to be all together.
"So, I've decided that we are going to conquer another dungeon!" you announce. "Sinbad said we can't leave until I can use my full Djinn equip, so it won't be tomorrow or anything. But the moment I have it, we're leaving. We have to get our asses in gear to start that kingdom of ours!"
"Oooh! Yay~! Where are we gonna go?" Sana cheers, looking up at you with excited eyes.
"Wherever we can. We need to keep our ears out for any info on dungeons appearing. Until we leave, though, we need to get some money going. How much does everyone have saved up?" you ask.
The four of you pool your money together and count it. It wasn't little, but it wasn't great by any means. You consider telling everyone to pick up jobs again.
"Well, let's all pick up odd jobs until I've mastered the Djinn equip. The more money we have, the more prepared we'll be, right?" you offer, picking up a few coins.
"Yeah, that shouldn't be too hard." Ulric answers, leaning against the post of your bed.
"I'm sure we could get our jobs at that bar back, easily." Sana offers, glancing at Ulric.
"Merchants are always needing hands, so it'll be easy. No problem at all." Ama agrees.
"Great! We should all head out first thing tomorrow." you add.
"Sure... When are you and Sinbad going to practice, though?" questions Ama.
"He'll be busy for a little while, so I'm on my own until he's free." you reply.
"Will you practice without him?"
"Of course. I want to get outta here already! We gotta get moving on this thing or we're never gonna be able to!"
All that said, you all begin to map out how to go about this. The boat, supplies, and where you'd most likely find a dungeon. It was a useful distraction from how much your heart ached.
It's now been three days, everyone now with a job outside of their training with the generals. You were just getting off work now, the sun just behind the horizon. Despite how exhausting work was, you still had to go practice with your Djinn.
You entered the opened platform where you practiced before. It was a cool night, nice and calm. Perfect for keeping your mind on the task at hand.
Inhaling deeply, you summon Iao. Over and over, willing each time for him to fully take you over. You felt it, the attempt- just how close it all was.
So you kept going. With everything you had you willed Iao to dwell in you. It was making quick work of your magoi.
Momentarily you released it, catching your breath. How come it hasn't worked? What was blocking you? It's been so long since you obtained Iao, and you couldn't tap into his full power yet.
Taking a deep breath you resolved tonight would be the night no matter what. With the last of your magoi, you urged Iao to dwell in you, begging with all the desire you could muster. Your body was beginning to tremble and you felt a burn throughout your being, but pushed through.
You magoi is beyond a critical low, and as you felt the blood rise up your throat, you also felt a different sensation. Your entire body was engulfed in a searing light and after it had receded, you were able to glance at Iao's full Djinn equip.
Ecstatically, you laughed, raising your weapon in the air as you coughed more blood. You didn't want to let go, even as your eyes filled with red. It wasn't until you couldn't stand that you released Iao.
Smiling, feeling like the world could be yours now, you pass out.
You wake up immensely sore, and your mouth has a bad taste to it. Unaware of your surroundings, or anything really, you groan, finding it hard to even do that. Barely, you register movement around you and various hushed voices.
"(Y/n), are you alright?"
Opening your eyes, you find yourself staring into Yam's big blue eyes. Just beyond her is Sana, worry all over her face. You grumble, wanting to turn over or move your arm or something, but you were too weak.
"I really hurt." you gasp out.
"Of course you do, dumbass! You used your magoi to that point!? I thought someone had tried to kill you!" you hear Ama yell from somewhere behind Yam and Sana, who glared back at him.
Oh yeah. I was able to use my full Djinn equip!
"Where is Iao?" you murmur.
"Right here," says Yam, turning to your nightstand. "We had to change you out of those bloody clothes so we sat him here."
You meekly take the short blade into your hand and let your arm collapse on the bed. It was taking too much effort to do that, even. The state you were in was horrible, but what it got you was worth it.
"Well, I'm too weak to prove it, but I finally did it." you wheeze, looking at Iao with pride. "I finally was able to summon my full Djinn equip! We can leave!"
"Not in that state!" said Sinbad's voice, and he pushed Yam aside. "Do you realize how much you've worried us!? How much danger you were in?! You are not leaving until you are healed and able to perform in top shape, (Y/n)!"
"Sinbad, I couldn't leave now despite how much I want to, I could barely grab Iao-" you tell him.
"Why did you have to push yourself so hard? Do you hate being near me that much, now?" he shouts and the temperature in the room drops.
You sigh, looking to Ama before saying, "Could you all excuse us for a minute?"
Sana and Ulric look petrified and hopefully Ama would explain it to them. You were hoping to avoid it, but why did it matter? What you and Sinbad had was real and worth everything. Hopefully you could convey that to him.
"Sinbad, I don't hate being near you. It hurt, a lot, and it still does, being so close to you but not being as close as we were-" you explain.
"That was your choice! I wanted to stay together! I want to stay together- please! Don't leave me, you're the only woman I've loved and wanted to keep." he roars, his face inches from yours.
"Sinbad, I love you, I really do. But if I stay with you now, it won't get me my own kingdom. You know that." you hush.
"Is mine not good enough?" Sinbad growls, getting indignant.
"This is why I didn't want to stay together. I knew that if I stayed that you'd get me to ditch my duties. I will become a king of my own country, Sinbad. Please, don't make it so I can never come back here- what happened to me always being welcomed? And you not stopping me?"
"I already miss you so much."
"Sinbad, one day, we'll be something to each other again. Even if it's when you truly are an old man, I know it. I know that I love you, and I know that you love me. But, even saying that, the world moves on, and we may grow apart. If that does happen, I still want us to be allies when I get my own country. Can you promise that?"
"Yes... I promise."
The others worked while you recovered. They pulled longer hours to get even more money, ensuring you'd be as well off as possible. It had only been two days, but you were easily walking, and after one more day, you planned on setting sail.
This evening you'd go to the market and get your supplies. Ama got a deal from his employer on a small ship, even sparing us with good to sell if needed. It was a good thing your right hand man was such a charismatic charmer.
While you waited for them to return from their last day of work, you went back up to your training platform. Your magoi was fully restored but your body was still a little rough from the repercussions. Despite this, you summoned your full Djinn equip.
You smiled as you were able to fully appreciate the power you have gained. A broad smile took over your face as you bolted to the edge, jumping off and soaring up into the sky. The wind whipping by you, you couldn't help but let Iao's lightning pulse through you, sparking in the bright, late day sun.
It was exhilarating to be so high up and have the ability to go further. Now more than ever you wanted to go to the next dungeon. You had to not just for your kingdom, but for yourself.
And you repeated that to yourself again as you loaded the last bit of cargo onto your small boat. You looked at those who had come to see you and your fleet off, smiling wide. Sinbad stood tall and strong at the center of them all, looking at your "shabby" gettup. Naturally he offered something better with a stocked crew, but you reminded him you can't owe him anymore than you already do.
"Well, I guess we're ready to go now." you say to Sinbad's group as well as your own.
Everyone takes this as the time to say goodbye. Ja'far offers you various good luck charms, even tearing up a little and demanding that you stay in touch. Yam then provided the means to do such a thing, enveloping you in a hug and wishing you the best. Sharrkan even gave you his half hug, saying he had yet another pupil to be proud of.
Lastly, you came up to Sinbad. His arms were crossed and he wore his trademark smile. You two stood a respectful distance away, and you smiled up at him, offering him your hand. His large hand takes it, and you shake.
"Thank you for everything Sinbad." you say, unable to encompass everything you felt for this man. "You will always be a great impression on my mind, and I hope to see you once again when I'm stronger."
"It's been a pleasure hosting you all. You're always welcome back in Sindria at any point in your journey. As Ja'far and Yam have urged, please remain in contact." Sinbad says, all politeness, just like you.
There were no hugs, no whispered I'll miss you's or even a falter in your happy masks as you boarded your ship. The four of you went about setting off, pushing the boat from the docks and out onto the sea, everything fresh and new. Your body was coursing with adrenaline at not knowing what the next move would be, and you loved it.
You were set at the topmost point, the steering deck, watching ahead of you. The blue of the endless sea is all that was before you. Then, behind you, there was a distinctive noise that made you turn your head.
There was a strong current of wind hurdling your way. Momentarily you were perplexed but then you realized who it was. You looked to your friends below, deciding on whether or not to call Ama up.
You decided you had to- that ending with Sinbad was not the way you wanted it to be. Ama runs up the steps at his name and you motion for him to take the wheel, as you step away and summon your full Djinn equip. Smiling at him as he gawked, you launch into the air.
Sinbad circled around you in his current of wind then stopped before you, equipped with Focalor. The two of you caught your breath before you wrapped each other in an embrace. You then part briefly only to connect your lips in a hard, desiring kiss.
"You'll make an amazing king." Sinbad gasps out.
"I've had an amazing example." you whimper, pecking him once more before removing yourself from him.
The two of you hold eye contact for a moment, not wanting to leave the other. With a thud in your chest, you took to initiative and dropped down, not wanting to turn your back on him just yet. You watch him until you were just above the water before you finally turn and soar back to your ship.
The adrenaline in your body was being momentarily pushed aside from your last encounter with Sinbad. It was a better way to leave, but when is saying goodbye ever easy? So you looked at where you two were and smiled.
Don't worry Sinbad, I will be no less than kingly.
End
