Chapter Thirty Eight:

*Cameron's POV*

She hasn't even had anything to eat. She's probably starving right now. I groaned and lifted my head when I heard someone clear their throat.

"That didn't go well huh?" It was Jenny. I shook my head, which was encased between my arms, that were crossed over on the table. "It'll be fine trust me, let her cool down and after a few days she'll come around." I didn't think that was going to work. Seeing as our deal had consisted of me, never seeing her again and moving on.

Moving on, without her? A sudden pain tightened my heart.

"Where's Simon?" I heard Lexi ask Jenny.

"He just went to bring his car around... We're going home, to check on her. She didn't look happy leaving... So, yeah," I nodded, my head still between my arms. Because I just couldn't be bothered to look up. Didn't have the energy.

Did she really think she was my weakness? Did she have any idea how much strength she'd given me over the past months?

I felt someone slide in next to me. "It'll be fine bro, we'll try something else. She'll come around." Brad.

I take a deep breath and finally sit up. "No Brad, we won't try anything else. I promised her, if this didn't work, she'd never have to see me again. I... I have to respect that..." I looked away from all of them. "I'm... I'm going to go home now."

I took the car the driver had brought for me, before he had left to get Charlie. I hope she wouldn't be too stubborn about me sending my driver to her. I put my head down against the wheel. How could she think she was my weakness?! How could she think she was anyone's weakness?! Was that seriously her only reasoning. She had to know that, that was anything but the truth. Suddenly I was filled with determination. No, I wasn't going to take that as her reason... She had to know what she meant to me. She had to know how much stronger she made. After that, she could throw me out of her life all she wanted.

With that thought I made the most illegal u-turn ever, and exceeded all speeding limits. Which was a mistake as I was pulled over.

"Do you know what your speed was just then sir?" I needed to get to Charlie. I gave him an impatient look.

"Sorry, just give me the ticket already." His eyebrows rose, as if to say, do you want to try that again.

"If that attitude remains mister, then I'll lock you up for one night." The old guy threatened. I took a deep breath, and when I was about to reply... The walkie talkie on his jacket went off. The only thing I caught out of all of it was Charlie's address. Why did they just say her address. Did she...

I shook my head no. Just no. I probably just imagined it. The cop looked at me, "It's your lucky day." He quickly wrote me a ticket and then gave me some absurd warning. But all I could think of was the address. I pulled back onto the road. And this time I drove considerably slower.

I was telling myself it was because I didn't want to be pulled over again, but deep down I knew that for some reason I was dreading getting to Charlie's.

Finally I rounded her street. In a daze I parked the car, and got out of it. I would've tried to kid myself that the ambulance wasn't here for Charlie, if it hadn't been on her driveway. If Jenny wasn't crying over Simon. If I hadn't seen Charlie's limp body being dragged into the ambulance on a stretcher. But I those things happened.

I couldn't move. Couldn't speak. Couldn't breathe.it felt like I wasnt there, and this was a dream... An out of body experience. But that made no sense.
