One Smile Please
Chapter One:
I stood there contemplating on whether I should open the door or not. I was extremely late and the Boss wasn't so keen on me in the first place.... Ah heck. Knocking on the door, I slightly opened it, well here goes nothing.
Moody-eye looked up from his computer screen as I came in, "Ah Miss Rae, thank you for finally gracing me with your presence," he said mockingly. Man, do I hate this guy, but I really needed to keep this job. The reason for the nickname had nothing todo with the beauty of Harry Potter ... To be honest the guy was just hella moody and one of his eyes was actually bigger than the other... Which wasn't odd at all.... Note the sarcasm.
"I'm so, so sorry, sir," I said, then panicked which doesn't end well because I start talking, "Basically, I had a dream that the world was going to end and that zombies were going to take over and no, sir I didn't watch a scary movie about zombies at two in the morning! How could you think that? Anyways, so I had the dream and I woke up, because you know... but then I found out that I had run out of salt! And salt is the only weapon I have against the zombies, which is why I had to go out to the supermarket and, yeah... I'm sorry," Okay, that was a load of bull... I woke up late. There.
He seemed to ignore the amount of shit that just poured out of my mouth and carried on like I had only said sorry, "Of course you are, you always are. This is your last warning Miss Rae, you would be long gone if you weren't as good as you are at your job. Any who, I have a new project for you, which is why I called you up in the first place," he briefly glanced at me whilst handing me a file, "This company called in for a photoshoot and... you can discuss all the details with the manager of the company on the meeting I have arranged for the two of you, and please get there on time. Also dress... appropriately please," he said glaring at the hoodie I had on, I'm sorry I just don't do pencil skirts and blazers! But I nod to reassure the man.
After discussing some other information about the company and the photoshoot, Mr Smith allowed me to go and work in my cabin on finishing my previous project.
My friend walked over to me as soon as I came outside, "So, how was it? Did he fire you?" I smacked him on the shoulder; he always asks that, every single time I come out from his office. Simon just let out a hearty laugh.
"He gave me a new project you idiot, plus he loves me too much to fire me," we both laughed at that. "What are you meant to be doing anyway? I swear you have like nothing to do, which is why you're always following me,"
We were outside my cabin and I saw Simon's eyes widen like he just remembered something, "Oh shit! Boss wanted the updated report, and he wants it in," he looked at his phone which he had been holding, "twenty minutes, Charlie I'll see you in a bit," I laughed as he ran off. He was the financial manager of the company, and he took his work quite seriously. I was a photographer and photo editor, two in one. I take the photos, edit them and then pass them back to the company so they can use it to advertise or put in their magazines.
When I'd finished the project, I emailed it off to the Boss for approval, and signed out then headed to my car, it was dark already. As I sat inside I suddenly remembered the man on the bridge. It had been a couple of weeks now and my mind sometimes just wondered if he' gone back some other day and jumped off. And because of that fear I actually checked the news daily, just so you know I hate the news.
Well, tomorrow I was meeting up with the manager; hopefully he won't be like the last one. He really pissed me off, and I had to try my best to not punch that motherfucker in the face.
I got home and did my usual routine of whipping something together to eat, making sure all doors and windows were locked, and checking my mail after that I went to my room. Once in my room I opened up my laptop to finish some work. I didn't even realise I'd fallen asleep.
