One Smile Please
Chapter Sixteen:
*Cameron's POV*
Today was Charlie's first day. And I just couldn't wait to see her. It was so hard to not be around her. I tried telling her how I felt a few days ago at the barbeque but that went down the drain because of how nervous I was. This was why today I was determined to confess how I felt to Charlie. I gave myself a bit of a pep talk in front of the mirror and headed out.
When I got to the office, I realised something. Unlike before Charlie wouldn't be working with me. In fact she wouldn't be anywhere near me. Damn it. I walked in to my room and nodded at Ryan, whose cabin was just outside mine. I did all the paperwork that was there for me on my desk and finished all my tasks before lunch.
Was Charlie here yet? How would she be getting on? Would she come to meet me? The questions carried on pouring in and out of my head. Just then I felt someone tap my shoulder. It was Charlie.
"Thinking about me?" she asked with a small smirk. "Then quit it and get back to work" she snapped.
"But I finished-" although before I could end my sentence she disappeared. Wow had I been daydreaming about Charlie? Oh god. I need a coffee.
Normally I would've just asked someone else to get my coffee but I needed to take my mind off things so I got up to make it myself.
As I was pouring myself some coffee, I felt someone stand next to me. "You know you should just confess your undying love for me already..." I looked up and of course, there she was again. "Or I may just run off with a unicorn..." I chuckled, looked down to put some milk in my coffee and you probably guessed that when I looked back up Charlie had disappeared.
"I'm going mad." I muttered to myself and earned a few strange looks from all the other people in the room that were having a break.
"You are so unresponsive dude, I mean do you have something against expressing your feelings?! Is it illegal where you live?" Imaginary Charlie asked as I walked to my office. "Come on just admit it, you love me. I mean how could you not? I'm just that loveable." Imaginary Charlie did a hair flip. I couldn't help but snigger slightly at that.
"What's so funny?" Charlie asks. But this time she's standing on the other side of me and wearing a green hoodie instead of the red one. I ignored imaginary Charlie. I mean, my brain was malfunctioning and I didn't need my colleagues to find out, they would think I was crazy, talking to someone who wasn't even there.
I walked into my office. "Hey, don't ignore me you monkey-face,"
"But you're not real!" I exclaimed, taking a seat. Imaginary Charlie fumed.
"The fuck I'm not real! I'll show you what real is after I punch the bejesus out of your perfect little face. I mean I waste my time and come down here specifically for you because you are my friend. But no! What do I get in return?! Nothing! I was so right; I mean you should totally rename yourself legally to Mr Unresponsive! You literally ignored me out there as if I didn't exist! Dude I thought we were friends!" She screamed. Shit, she's real. Okay Cameron, play it cool.
"You think my face is perfect?" I ask with a smirk.
Charlie groaned. "I hate you, you know that right?"
"Mmhmm,"
She took a deep breath and calmed herself down, "There's no point. I just came down here to ask if you wanted to go somewhere for lunch because personally I don't know anyone but you here. Plus I don't think I will be able to hold back from punching all of the snobs in this office if I don't get out if here soon." She moaned as she plopped down on the sofa on which she used to work from.
