Chapter Twenty Five

I sit there stunned into silence. Did Fraser just say what I thought he said? No... He couldn't have right? Why did I care anyway? It wasn't like I had any feelings for him.

You do.

No I don't brain.

Yeah... you do. If you didn't you wouldn't be so shocked.

I'm shocked because I just wasn't expecting it... But I'm happy for him. I am. I really am.

Don't do this to us, don't you dare block out your feelings like this. You know it never ends well. The H hates it. Do you want to even consider having this conversation with the H...? He will kill you. Like all that's going to happen in your conversation is: bang, bang, bang. You’re dead.

Good pun.

Oh wait I think I can hear the H right now. Yup he's angry. Have fun dealing with him.

Then all of a sudden my heart starts beating excessively fast. I close my eyes and take a deep breath.

"That's...." I take another breath, "that's great news Fraser. Congratulations." I try to smile but my heart starts hearing so the smile falters. "I've actually got to go and pick up Cece from Oscar... so I better leave. But tell me if you need help with anything. Anything at all."

Although before I can get up and move away, Fraser places his hand on mine. "Are you okay?" he asks with genuine concern. Why was he so nice?

I look up from under my curtain of hair. "Of course silly. Why wouldn't I be? You're getting married! That's just great!" I have the biggest smile on my face and it hurts. It hurts so much. My heartbeat went from chaotic and wild to almost negligible. Almost as if my heart itself was upset. Crazy right? I mean I had nothing to be upset about. My friend was getting married.

But then why did I lie? Why did I feel like crying?

"Okay..." he looked disappointed. And for some reason I wanted to believe, not happy? "Well I'll let you leave then. See you around?"

My smile widened, "Duh... or I'll murder you with an axe myself okay?!" That made him smile a little. I got up and started to gather my things. "Bye Fraser."

He stood up... "Can... can I hug you? As a friend..." his words were left hanging in the air. I didn't even have to think about it. I leapt into his arms and hugged him. My arms were around his neck and my head in the crook of it. But just to be able to do that I had to go on the tip of my toes. I breathed every inch of him in. His arms made their way around my back and pulled me in closer, if that was even possible. The hug went on for too long but neither of us didn't anything to stop it. But then it was stopped just like that. He pulled away, not completely, I was still in his arms. I was still close to him. But he pulled away. And smiled slightly. Jesus that smile. It could kill a million girls. No wonder why he refrained from using it.

"Bye Charlie." he whispered ever so quietly and then placed a soft, sweet, lingering kiss on my forehead before completely pulling away.

Then without looking back at him I grabbed my bag and almost ran out of the restaurant. He was getting married. He was getting married. He was fucking getting married.

As I start walking back home I dig my phone out of my bag and call Simon. Town was only a ten minute walk from where I lived so I didn't actually need a car or anything which I also didn't have. As the phone rings I feel the sniffles coming on. "Hey-lo?" Simon is slightly weird when answering my phone calls.
