One Smile Please
Chapter Fourteen:
It had been four weeks since mine and Fraser's dinner... the night of the accident... and the night when Fraser and me both had our massive revelations. In those weeks I had gotten extremely busy with 'kid' proofing the house, which meant:
· Rehearsing not to swear (that was hard trust me, every time me or Jenny swore, Simon would squirt us with his water gun)
· Getting rid of the majority of alcohol from the house (I'm supposed to be responsible, I cannot do that drunk)
· Clearing out the study room and turning it into a kids bedroom (that was fun, though we decided to let Cece decide what colour paint she wanted and other things like that so that isn't complete yet)
· We bought sh-crap load of toys (that was also a lot of fun)
· And we had to actually clean the place (that was the hard part, we went around dusting, scrubbing and brushing with yellow kitchen glove things and I swear we looked like some weird scientists)
The paperwork for Cece's temporary custody had finally been done which meant as off tomorrow she would be here. Throughout the past month I'd been visiting her regularly and she's a good kid, really. I just hope I was good enough for her, even if it is for a little while.
During those weeks I also ended up reluctantly accepting Mr Andersons job offer as I couldn't find another vacancy that was well enough paid and if I was going to be looking after a kid, well I needed a job and extra money.
I also managed to get Jenny to agree to bring her boyfriend to dinner tonight, which was a massive bonus, as even though she was acting a bit better she still wasn't herself. And I think I saw some bruises on her arms the other day... which makes me want to throttle someone. I confronted Jenny about them and she didn't give me a straight answer. If this 'boyfriend' was abusing her... well, imma go frigging mafia on yo backside mate, coz nobody be pulling crap like dat... See progress, no swearing, right there!
That's what I was doing now. Cooking dinner. Simon was trying to help... but I couldn't bear to tell the poor soul that he was just making things worse, so I just let him do whatever his little heart pleased. I had invited Fraser (mainly because Jenny forced me) but also because I hadn't seen him in a while, and I think he was bringing Brad. So it was more or less a full house.
After the dinner was ready, I decided to go up and change. I wore a plain white sleeveless top with some printed leggings. Then I just sat in my room and played with my hair, and decided to go with a side French plait. I looked decent I guess. By the time I was ready to go back downstairs the doorbell rang. As I made my way down the stairs Simon came to open the door and he greeted Fraser, Brad and some girl, I had no idea was coming.
"Hey," I said as I joined Simon at the door, "Come in," We all went in.
"Sorry, Charlie, this is Alexis," the blond headed girl waved, "She just came back from her world tour and we decided to drag her here, sorry for not letting you know in advance,"
"No, its fine," I looked from Fraser to Alexis, "Hey,"
"Hi, sorry again, I really don't like turning up uninvited but these dorks dragged me along. And call me Lexi by the way,"
"No seriously it's totally fine," Simon had gone into the kitchen, probably to get everyone a drink or something. I excused myself, so I could call up Jenny and find out where she was. She didn't pick up. "Sorry, we're just waiting for Jenny -my friend- and then we can have dinner." From the corner of my eye I saw Simon come out of the kitchen with a tray full of drinks. Oh dear lord help him, or he's going to drop all of them. And that's exactly what happened. He dropped all the drinks... over Lexi.
