THE WARM afternoon sun poured down on Riverdale High's football field, where the team was wrapping up practice. You stood on the sidelines, chatting with Reggie, your laughter echoing across the empty bleachers. Reggie had slung an arm lazily around your shoulders as he cracked another one of his cocky jokes, earning yet another giggle from you.
Archie, sweaty and already irritated from a long practice, jogged toward the two of you, his jaw clenched and his gaze narrowing on Reggie's arm.
"Hey, Reggie," Archie called out, his voice just a little too loud to sound casual. "You done here, or are you planning to hog all of Y/N's time?"
Reggie smirked at Archie's tone, sensing the irritation beneath his words. He dropped his arm from your shoulder, turning to face Archie with his trademark grin. "Chill, Andrews. I'm just being friendly. Can't help it if I'm her favorite guy to hang out with."
Archie's brows furrowed, his fists instinctively curling at his sides. "Favorite guy? Yeah, I don't think so."
You raised a brow, watching the interaction unfold with amused curiosity. "Arch, come on. We're just talking."
"I know," Archie replied quickly, his gaze flicking to you before returning to Reggie. "I just don't get why he's acting like you're his date."
Reggie's grin widened, clearly enjoying how worked up Archie was getting. "What's the problem, Andrews? Afraid she likes me better?"
"That's not even funny, Reggie," Archie snapped, stepping closer, his jealousy no longer subtle. "Why don't you take a step back, huh?"
"Archie," you said softly, reaching for his arm, but he barely glanced your way, his focus locked on Reggie.
Reggie put his hands up in mock surrender, his tone teasing. "Relax, dude. I'm just messing with you. If looks could kill, you'd have taken me out ten minutes ago."
"Maybe that's because you don't know how to back off," Archie shot back, his cheeks flushed with more than just the heat from practice.
You tugged on Archie's arm firmly this time, forcing him to look at you. "Archie, seriously. You're being ridiculous. Reggie's just a friend. I only have eyes for you, and you know that."
Archie's posture softened immediately at your words, his shoulders sagging as he let out a sheepish sigh. "Yeah... yeah, I know." He scratched the back of his neck, embarrassed. "I just don't like the way he—"
Reggie interrupted, laughing as he clapped Archie on the shoulder. "You've got it bad, Andrews. Chill out. You're already the golden boy—you don't need to get jealous over little ol' me."
Archie scowled, swatting Reggie's hand away, but you couldn't help but chuckle at the exchange. Sliding your hand into Archie's, you leaned up to kiss his cheek. "See? No competition."
Archie finally smiled, his thumb brushing over your knuckles as he relaxed. "Yeah, okay. I might've overreacted."
"Might've?" Reggie teased, earning an annoyed glare from Archie.
"Don't you have somewhere else to be, Mantle?" Archie grumbled, pulling you closer.
"Fine, fine. I'll leave you two lovebirds alone," Reggie said with a dramatic eye roll, throwing his bag over his shoulder. "Try not to get too possessive, Arch."
As Reggie walked off, you turned to Archie, grinning. "You're cute when you're jealous, you know."
Archie groaned, hiding his face with his free hand. "Don't even start."
But the little smile tugging at the corner of his lips said it all—he was just glad to have you by his side.
