The diner door jingled as Archie and you stepped out into the cool night air. Pop's was bustling as usual, but the noise and chatter faded away as you walked hand in hand down the street.
Archie glanced at you, his smile lighting up his face. "Thanks for coming with me to Pop's," he said. "I always have a great time when I'm with you."
You felt your cheeks warm at his words. "Me too," you replied, squeezing his hand gently.
Suddenly, Archie stopped and turned to face you. Your heart skipped a beat as you looked up at him expectantly.
"Would you allow me to walk you home?" Archie asked, his eyes searching yours.
Without hesitation, you nodded, a smile spreading across your face. "Of course you can."
Archie's smile mirrored your own, his relief palpable. "Great," he said, his hand tightening around yours. "I just wanted to make sure you got home safely."
The two of you resumed walking, this time with a renewed sense of closeness. Your footsteps echoed in the quiet streets, punctuated only by the occasional passing car or distant laughter from a nearby house party.
As you neared your doorstep, Archie slowed his pace, as if he was hesitant to end the night. He turned to face you once more, his expression earnest.
"I had a great time with you tonight," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I hope we can do it again soon."
You felt your heart swell with happiness. "I'd like that very much," you replied, your voice echoing his softness.
