Your relationship with Cheryl was a rollercoaster, to say the least. One day, everything was fine, and the next, you were arguing over the most trivial things. It seemed like it was always back and forth. But the most explosive fight you had was over her ex-girlfriend, Toni.
From the moment you started dating Cheryl, Toni had been lurking in the background. You couldn't shake the feeling that she was jealous, but you'd never brought it up with Cheryl, always dismissing it as paranoia. Yet, deep down, you knew that Toni's presence was affecting your relationship in ways you didn't want to admit.
Cheryl could always tell when something was on your mind. 'Babe? You okay?' she asked, her concern evident in her voice.
You snapped out of your thoughts and smiled. 'Huh? Oh, yeah, I'm fine,' you replied, a bit too quickly.
Cheryl gave you a knowing look, her eyes full of understanding. 'Thinking about Toni? I know you too well. Toni and I just weren't meant to be together. I like being with you! You're my person.'
Her words washed over you, easing your concerns for the moment. You couldn't help but smile back, charmed by her ability to read your mind and reassure you with her words. 'You always know what to say,' you said, leaning in to give her a soft kiss on the cheek.
"Y/N! Get your ass over here," It was Toni.
"No thanks, I'm enjoying my nice lunch," This was a reoccurrence with Toni. She'd find our table and find some way to get under my skin.
"Is it really that hard to walk over here and just have a simple conversation?"
"Fine," I walk over to Toni with my arms crossed over my chest. I wasn't about to let her talk down to me.
"That wasn't so hard was it?"
"What do you want?"
"Tomorrow night, serpents against bulldogs."
"But I'm a serpent?" I raise my eyebrow.
"Guys vs guys, girls vs girls. For the serpents the rest of the girls can pick whose side they're on."
"I'll have to ask Archie."
"I already did, and Reggie. They said okay."
"Fine. Tomorrow night, football field. Get ready to have your ass kicked," I turn around to return to my seat.
"Why didn't you tell me, Archie?"
"I was literally about to, but Toni came up."
"What's happening?" Cheryl asks, putting her arm around my shoulder.
"Don't worry about it, I'm just going to be busy tomorrow night. Hang out with Kev," I look over at Kevin and glare at him, he nods.
"Okay, did Toni say something? If so I'll get my mom to-"
I cut her off and kiss her, "It's okay. I'm standing up for you. Let me do this."
"Be safe. Archie? Can I talk to you?" Cheryl turns to him.
"Uh, sure."
They leave to go talk, then come back. Archies face looks like he just saw a ghost. "Archie, you good?"
"Mhm."
"He's just a baby. I made him tell me what was going to happen and he did. I just threatened that if anything happened to you, that I would have him dead."
"Cheryl...."
"What? Fine. I won't kill you, just keep an eye on her."
Archies face softens and goes back to his normal skin tone, "Of course."
"Cheryl, you're staying home."
"I know, I have to help with dinner. Unfortunately."
"Okay, good. I wouldn't want my girl getting hurt," I kiss her softly.
I could tell that Toni was staring, but I couldn't care less. She had her chance. And I'm making it right.
