IT WAS finally time for you and Veronica to tell her parents about your relationship. After months of keeping it secret, you both knew the moment was inevitable. Walking down the school hallway, hand in hand, you smiled at the friends who passed by, feeling the warmth of the love you shared. Nearly everyone at school knew about you two, but Veronica's parents remained in the dark.
You turned to her, your voice soft with a hint of nerves. "Hey, babe?"
She stopped and looked at you, her face lighting up. "Yeah? What's up?"
"When do you think we'll tell your parents?" you asked, unsure but hopeful.
Veronica's smile faltered slightly. "Soon, I promise. Things at home... aren't ideal right now." She shrugged, and the two of you continued on toward the lunchroom.
"Cute couple alert!" Kevin's voice called out as you reached the table.
His comment made everyone laugh, and you chuckled, offering him a playful nod. "Thanks, Kev."
Veronica gave you a quick kiss on the cheek before excusing herself to the restroom. As soon as she was out of earshot, you sighed, and Kevin caught the sound, leaning in.
"Hey, girl, what's going on?" he asked, eyes filled with concern.
You hesitated, then confessed, "She hasn't told her parents about us yet. I get why, but it's hard. I told my parents right away, and I don't understand why we're still a secret with hers."
Kevin gave you a sympathetic look. "Not every parent is open to their kid's relationships—especially when it comes to being out. She probably just wants to handle it her way."
You nodded, knowing he was right, but the frustration lingered. "I know... but why keep hiding us?"
Across the table, Archie chimed in. "When we were together, she told her dad right off. He took it well, actually. Maybe it's her mom she's worried about?"
The group launched into a series of theories, trying to make sense of it. Betty and Jughead, two of your closest friends, listened and weighed in, too. Betty looked at you, her gaze supportive. "Did you ask Veronica about it?"
"Yeah," you replied. "She just said things weren't great at home."
Jughead nodded thoughtfully. "Maybe just give her time. It took Betty a while to tell her mom about us, too."
Just then, Veronica returned and smiled at the group. "Hey, Kev, mind if I sit with my girlfriend?"
Kevin grinned, shifting over. "Not at all. So... when are you telling your parents?"
Veronica took a steady breath, glancing over at you with a determined look in her eyes. "Tonight."
Excitement and nerves sparked around the table, everyone understanding how important this step was for both of you.
