AS THE class wrapped up, Charles turned off the projector and began packing up his materials. "That's it for today, everyone. Good work," he announced, his gaze lingering on you with a small, unreadable smile.
Betty nudged your arm. "So? What did you think?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
You hesitated, letting a smile form. "Honestly? I actually enjoyed it," you admitted, surprising even yourself.
Betty grinned knowingly. "And... are you ready for your date?" she teased, emphasizing the word with a sly grin.
"Betty, it's not that big of a deal," you replied, rolling your eyes. But inside, your stomach fluttered. It had been a while since your last date, and you couldn't help but feel nervous.
"Hey, I'm just asking," Betty said with a laugh, throwing her bag over her shoulder.
Before you could respond, Charles approached. "Y/N, you ready to go?" he asked casually, though his steady gaze made your heart skip a beat.
"Yeah, sure," you said, quickly gathering your things. You turned to Betty. "You good with this?"
"Of course. Just... don't do anything I wouldn't do," she replied with a wink, making you laugh and shake your head.
The drive to Pop's was filled with light conversation, and by the time you slid into a booth, you felt more at ease.
"Y/N, Charles," Pop Tate greeted warmly as he approached. "Good to see you two here."
"Hi, Pop," you said with a smile. "I'll take a chicken sandwich with fries and a strawberry milkshake, please."
"I'll have the same," Charles chimed in, glancing your way with a smirk. "Guess I'll trust your taste."
Pop chuckled as he scribbled down the order. "Coming right up."
As he walked away, Charles leaned back in the booth, studying you. "So, how long have you lived in Riverdale?"
"Pretty much my whole life," you replied. "You're still settling in, right? How are you finding it so far?"
Charles tilted his head, a thoughtful expression crossing his face. "It's... interesting, to say the least."
You laughed. "That's one way to put it. Let me guess—Betty's already warned you about how this town is basically a magnet for chaos?"
"She might have mentioned it," Charles said with a grin. "But honestly, I've seen my fair share of chaos in the FBI. Riverdale doesn't scare me."
"Yet," you teased, making him chuckle.
Pop returned with your food, placing the plates and milkshakes in front of you with a smile. "Enjoy, folks."
"Thanks, Pop," you both said in unison before digging in.
"Okay, this is amazing," Charles said after his first bite.
"Right? Told you," you said, grinning. "We practically live off this stuff. Every Friday night, my friends and I come here. It's like our little tradition."
"That sounds fun," Charles said. "My friends and I used to hit up the drive-in movies back in the day. It was our thing."
"You're kidding! I've always wanted to go to one of those," you said, leaning forward.
"You've never been to a drive-in?" he asked, feigning shock. "That's tragic. We'll have to fix that."
"Deal," you said, smiling at the thought.
After finishing your meal, Pop returned with the check, but when you reached for it, Charles held up a hand.
"I've got this," he said firmly.
"You sure?" you asked, feeling a little guilty.
"Absolutely. I invited you, remember?" he said, pulling out his wallet.
"Well, thank you," you said, genuinely touched by the gesture.
As you left Pop's and headed to his car, the cool night air made you shiver slightly. Charles must have noticed because he shrugged off his jacket and handed it to you without a word.
"Thanks," you said softly, slipping it on.
When he pulled up in front of your house, Charles got out and walked you to the door.
"I had a great time tonight," you said, turning to face him.
"Me too," he said, his expression warm. "So... about that drive-in movie. Let's make it happen soon."
You smiled. "I'd like that."
He hesitated for just a moment, then leaned in to press a soft kiss to your cheek. Your skin warmed at the contact.
"Goodnight, Y/N," he said as he stepped back.
"Goodnight, Charles," you replied, lingering for a moment before heading inside.
As you closed the door behind you, you couldn't stop the smile that spread across your face. You already couldn't wait for the next date.
