...down the path. They continued on with the spiral, keeping their guard up for more enemies. Alex floated ahead lazily.

Link noticed a large basin that wasn’t lit. They were resting in the center of large stone portions of the path way. One was facing them, continuing the path on. The other was turned away, leaving a gap that no horse could jump. There was a small step in between the two spaces where the basin sat, large enough for one mounted rider or four people on foot to wait for the other slab to turn.

“I don’t think that’s lit by fire,” Link said.

Parijan rode up beside Link. She glared ahead for a moment, before leaning back in her saddle. “There’s a charm on those. Only things that can pass through the Spirit Realm can light it.”

“I can do it!” Alex cheered, and floated over to the gap. She landed in a basin in the middle of the bridge, and the farther side turned to face them, but the closer one turned away immediately after. Alex left the basin and they returned to normal. “Um…”

Link said, “We’ve just got to cross it in turns.”

Parijan added, “I don’t know...something about this seems...off…”

“Yeah,” Daniel added. “This looks like a security gate, but if those spirits have the other side of the gate, wouldn’t it make sense to protect this better. We know how to get across, after all.”

“Astute observation,” Endeavor commented. “But we have no other option than to cross it.”

“I don’t like all this ranged business,” Daniel grumbled. “I’d rather be able to use my sword on this things.”

“Careful what you wish for,” Parijan said. “The physical undead can be a lot worse. I’d rather not run into another ReDead myself.”

Link shuddered at the thought of the piercing cry of the ReDeads, and wondered what might possibly be guarding this bridge. With nothing in sight, he was concerned about the plans of the monsters instead the temple.

“Daniel should cross last,” Link said. “He’ll be able to give us cover as we cross.”

“Or go first,” Daniel suggested.

“If you go first, then you will have to defend us and yourself against whatever may be over there,” Endeavor pointed out.

“I’ll go last,” Daniel stated.

“Don’t worry, I’ll watch your back,” Parijan taunted.

Daniel muttered, “Why don’t I feel much better?”

“I don’t,” Parijan responded. “I thought we’d made it very clear that I can see spirits.”

Daniel paused, but just looked away and adjusted his armor, defeated by Parijan’s snark. Link glanced at Endeavor. She replied, “I suggest we move along.”

Link asked Epona on across the gap. He waited, watching around him for some sign of an attack. Silence endured though. The torchlight flickered for a moment as Epona reached the center of the bridge where Alex waited to activate the lantern.

A cackle broke loose from the depths. Link looked down as the bridge switched for him to cross. A band of wizzrobes rose up up rapidly, though these were unlike any wizzrobes Link had encountered before. Their long robes were very much like the Gerudo raiders’ embroidered, and large, golden masks encrusted with rubies covered their faces. The wide masks made them hard targets, as the metal prevented most projectiles to reach their targets and magic had little effect on the monsters unless hit below the masks. To make it harder, these wizzrobes were far shorter than those Link had encountered before, meaning the opening at the back of their heads was the best target.
