PART 3: THE ALLIEGANT SPIRITS

Maci's POV

"Shit, we can't calm Ellie down. She's literally going insane." Molly said as she came into the room.

It's been a few days since Eric has been arrested and Ellie is losing her mind. "It's all Evelyn's doing. She made the call to have him stand trial, she's the only one they'll listen to." Zeke said.

"We know that." I agreed.

"She's going to confront her now!" Steph yells out.

Shit! I quickly grabbed my jacket and sped off to track Ellie down.

Ellie's POV

I brisk walked down the multiple hallways till I reached the room I dreaded the most. I barged through the door, not even bothering to know. And made eye contact with the one person I never thought to see again.

"YOU!" I yelled.

"Nayeli, it's been a long time." Ray smirked at me.

"It's Ellie! The fuck are you doing here?!" I growled.

"Working. What are you doing here?" He asked.

"Where's Evelyn?!" I demanded.

"I'm here, Ellie." Evelyn appeared as I went off, "Let him go! You know why he went back, just let him go."

"I can't do that, Ellie. I can't have people thinking that they can easily get away for conspiracy. I'm sor-"

"Save the bullshit! You're follow the same direction Jeanine is going and you-" I pointed at Ray, "Have no right to come here and now sending the man I love to death!"

"I'm doing what's best for you and the people." Ray spoke.

"No! NO! Fuck that shit! Physically abusing us isn't what best for us! Mentally and emotionally abusing us isn't the best! I fucking hate you and wish you dead. I'm not even surprised that you would do this because you viewed him as competition and my one and only happiness!" I yelled.

Just then, the door flew open, nearly hitting me in the process. Maci and Tobias looks at me, their eyes wide with surprise.

"The fuck are you doing here?!" Maci barked.

"Ask both of these assholes!" I yelled before walking out of the room with Maci following me.

"What happened?" Mom asked as she, Seth, Olivia, and Cheyenne came towards us.

"Ray! He's here and working with Evelyn!" I barked.

"What the fuck?!" Seth yelled.

"I talked with them and according with what Evelyn said, it's to prove a point. She's trying the people that breaking the rules have consequences." I continued.

"No, she's basically trying to scare everyone into following the rules." Cheyenne spoke.

"We need to do something; now this is getting out of hand." Mom spoke.

"We'll think about that later. His trial is going to start soon." Maci spoke.

We went the Pit where people are shouting and cheering, a few of them were jeering. We pushed our way through the large crowd of people circling the middle of the Pit. I watched as two Dauntless members dragged him out, my heart breaking at the sight of him in this state.

"You want the truth?" One of the yells as he raises a syringe over head, "We'll give you the truth!" He plunges the syringe into the side of Eric's neck, making him wince slightly.

"May the truth set you free." Mr. Kang spoke as he stood in front of him, "Eric Coulter, you helped Jeanine take over Chicago and exerted brutal control over its citizens. Did you feel justified in murdering people in support of her regime?"

"Initially, yes." He says groggily.

"Then, I met her... I didn't want to do it anymore after, but they made me do it."

"Who? Who was the girl that caused this change of heart?"

Despite his grogginess, his eyes managed to find mine. "Nayeli Unlay."

"You said they made you do it. How?" '

"They were threatening to kill her so I told a lie to made them think we broke up."

"Do you regret what you have done?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Because she and her siblings wouldn't have to go through all this shit if I didn't agree to help Jeanine." He says, his eyes locked on mine.

Mr. Kang glances at me with sympathetic eyes, "Thank you for your Candor." he says even though there wasn't a need to anymore, the Faction system was no more.

"Kill him!"

"Let him live!"

"Yeah! We're better than this! Let him live!" was all I heard.

"Rise above it!" Some of them shouted over everyone else suggested otherwise.

Even though some were wiling to spare his life, they were still outnumbered.

"Looks like luck's not on your side." Edgar says mockingly as he aims his gun at Eric's head and clocks it.

"If that's supposed to scare me, it isn't working." Eric spat.

"Goodbye."
