Emily's POV
The next day, this happens as Evelyn stood on the other side of the gate.
"The Allegiant? That's what you're calling yourselves?" Evelyn asked Johanna.
"Amity just doesn't seem appropriate anymore." Johanna answers.
"So what exactly are you allegiant to? The faction system?"
"The factions kept Chicago peaceful for a very long time."
"Well, I wouldn't know about that because I was forced out of my faction. I gave up my life, my child, everything." She says as her eyes fell on me.
"I understand your anger, Evelyn. I do." Johanna says empathetically, "But the way forward-"
"The way forward has already begun. I know I said I'd be alone but..." She says as a group of Factionless formed behind her with guns pointing at me and Johanna.
"I'm not Candor," Johanna chuckles, "And I'm not Amity, so I will fight if I have to. You see these scars? I wasn't born Amity and I can assure you that I will fight for what I believe in." Johanna says, signaling our people to come out of their hiding spots and aim their guns at them.
"It seems like we're two peas in a pot." Evelyn scoffs.
"It doesn't have to be this way." I spoke, "We can come to some sort of agreement."
"I'll be happy to. The question is, are you wiling to work with me and find our children?" She says.
"You know why I can't." I shook my head.
"Alright then, you leave me no choice. Forgive me, Emily." She says before signaling her men to start firing.
"Get down!" Someone yelled.
"C'mon!" Zeke yells as he leads me to a safe spot with Uriah and they shield me from the many bullets raining down onus.
The war has begun.
TIME SKIP
They've broken through the gate. I pressed my back against the barricades and gripping the gun I had tightly in my hand. I came out of my spot, firing shots as I was shooting the Factionless down.
Guilt engulfs me as I watched bodies fall to the flood as I hid behind another barricade as shots continued to be fired back at me. Breathing heavily as my eyes frantically searched for Zeke, Uriah, Lynn, and Harrison.
Suddenly, I feel someone yanking me back by the hair and sending me tumbling back.
"I've been waiting for this for a really long time." I caught a glimpse for Edgar's face before his leg came crashing into my side.
He grabs onto a chunk of my hair, pulling my head out so that I was looking at him. "You think you're so tough, huh?" He lets out a sinister laugh, "Let's see how tough you really are." He says, his fist connecting with my jaw soon after.
The awful metallic taste of blood fills my mouth. I groaned as I tried to push myself up from the group, trying to reach for the gun, but he kicked it a few feet away.
"Not so tough now, huh?" He laughs as he stood down next to me, "Looks like you're really as useless as I thought you were."
I coughed, spitting out some of the blood onto the ground and scoffed, "So are you."
Before he could even react, I slid my leg across the floor and towards his, hooking them with mine. He lets out an 'oof' as he collided with the floor. I've manage to land a couple of kicks in his stomach as he struggled to get up. But as I launched my last kick, he grabs my leg and pulls on it, making me lost me balance and fall to the ground.
I quickly picked myself up before he could make his next move. He launched himself at me which I easily dodged. I grabbed him before the fell, holding him in a chokehold as I pulled out my knife and cut his throat before stabbing him, killing him.
"Emily!" It was Harrison as he took my hand and we got out of there in a hurry.
TIME SKIP
I sat on the steps at the front of the Dauntless compound, countless of bodies covered in plastic filled the field. Zeke was shot and the medics were tending to him, Lynn and Uriah sat next to him as they did.
"Hey, Em." I look at Harrison sitting next to me. "You okay?"
"I declared war and it's all my fault." I sighed.
"It's not your fault, Emily. Everything's gonna be alright." He comforts me as he wraps an arm around my shoulders. "This will all be over soon. I'll be right here with her." I smiled as I let out a chuckle.
"Emily? Where's Emily?!" Zeke yells as he push his way through the crowd.
"Over here, Zeke!" I yelled as I waved my hand in the air.
He jogs towards me with Lynn and Uriah following behind him. "What's wrong?" I asked.
"Emily, Four, Seth, Maci, Ellie, and Eric are back." He says.
"What? They're back already?" I asked to make sure I heard that right.
"This is bad. Really bad, Emily." Zeke nods.
"Zeke, calm down. Now that they're back, we can help them-"
"No, Emily, that's not it, the Factionless got them."
