Felix

Did you know he used to fence? He's pretty good at it.

He's actually funny, but I wouldn't say that to his face.

Your hair looks good.

Those words kept running around in my mind. They were storm clouds thundering through over and over again. The massive weight of them raining down on me. Kagami doesn't compliment anyone, yet she said one to my face and the other two behind my back. I was in shock. How was I supposed to respond to that information? I was too surprised to even compliment her back.

I should've complimented her too.

It's been over a week since the ice rink. Kagami has resumed her Ice Queen ways. She ignores me as much as she can. Though, Mila doesn't make it any easier when she's been clinging to me twenty four seven.

The only time I'm able to see Kagami is during English. We do have an English assignment to present after all. Somehow, she keeps dodging me every chance I get to speak with her. Once I arrive, she's reading or talking to fucking Logan. When we have partner conversations she leaves to the bathroom. And even though we have five minutes left at the end of class she speaks to Ms. Mirabell the whole time.

What the hell does she have to say to Ms. Maribell for FIVE FUCKING MINUTES!?

It's fucking aggravating.

We've been reading a book based on the original novel Othello. This book has all sorts of pain and I can't help but relate to it right now. I wonder if Kagami feels the same. It's hard to know when she dodges me. I am enjoying this book, but it'd be nice to know if she enjoys it too.

Othello is a tragedy that was written by William Shakespeare. There are two main characters and yes, love is a big obstacle in this. However, the main characters are Othello and Iago, both men have known each other their whole lives. Everything between them is concrete.

Except when another variable comes in and turns it into rubble. The love Othello has for this woman becomes something chaotic and jealousy consumes Iago.

Again, the version we read is called Exposure, so it's a retelling of Othello but in a modernized way. Perhaps it's for students to engage more, since Shakespeare can be a little difficult to understand. I personally loved both takes.

My mother took me to go see this play. Her eyes never strayed away from the people. The music was captivating and the plot was illuminating. I was twelve when I first saw it. I was young, but I really enjoyed being there with her.

She called it tragically remarkable.

For some odd reason I have this desire to know what Kagami thinks of it. Does she love it? Who's her favorite character? Does she think Iago is malicious? How does she feel about Othello's choices? What chapter is she on right now?

I haven't been able to pick Kagami's brain about this new assignment. It's been killing me. The last assignment we spoke about and agreed in many ways. It was the most riveting conversation that I had with her. I could have listened to her for hours. It was easy.

Easy.

That's not a word I've used in a long time. When I first found out my mother was sick, that part wasn't easy. When I heard my father had passed, that was another time easy wasn't sticking. So at this point maybe I deserve easy.

"Mr. Graham de Vanily, your mother would like to speak with you." My butler calls me from the study. I've been in here half the day trying my hardest to forget. To forget about Kagami and her words, to forget about my mother and her worsening condition, to forget that when she's gone I'll have no one.
