Kagami

My eyes wince at the fluorescent lighting. I can hear voices, but none of them are familiar. The side of my head hurts and my mouth feels dry and sour. I'm laying on one of the health room beds. Before I sit up, Felix walks in with some water.

He stops as soon as he notices that I'm awake. His eyes glance at the water then at me.

Did he get me water? He then drinks the water and walks towards me.

How typical.

"I didn't think you'd wake up so soon." He takes a seat next to me. Why is he here?

"How long have I been out?" My hand reaches my head and I wince where I touch it. A bruise.

"A while. PE has already started." He drinks more of his water. "Nurse Jacqueline said that you had some food poisoning and you were dehydrated."

Food poisoning? It was odd enough that I didn't have my usual bento box, but even the food tasted different. I couldn't put my finger on it.

"Then why are you here? Shouldn't you be there?" His lips part, but slowly close. He stares at me for a moment and then begins to speak.

"Someone needed to watch you while Mrs. Jacqueline called your mom. As well as get a few things from the basement. Let's just say, I was there at the wrong time." He shrugs.

"Well, I'm awake. You can leave." I move myself from under the blankets.

"Stop. What are you doing?" He places his water on the shelf next to him.

"I'm going to get me something to drink. And maybe get some mouthwash." I can taste the bile from earlier.

"I'll do it. Just stop. Stay." He holds out his hands. As if he were creating a force field to keep me from going any further.

"I can get my own stuff." I push.

"Damn it Tsurugi, just let me do this for fuck sake." He sighs and leaves.

Is it alright that part of me is happy that he's here? That I didn't wake up to find myself alone? That this boy hates helping me, but also does it anyway? Is this okay?

He's been a nuisance, I'll admit, but he's also been a- good friend. Or he could be a good friend. I'd like to be his friend.

Excuse me? After all he's said and done to you?

I must've smacked my head harder than I thought.

"Here." Felix comes back with some water and a small to-go pack of mouthwash.

I head into the bathroom, close the door with just a crack opened and begin to rinse out my mouth. I rinse until all I taste is the rusty tap water. Then pour the mouthwash in my mouth and rinse some more. After, I chug the cup of water Felix brought me.

I take a look at myself in the mirror and see pale skin staring back. I don't look well. Someone is definitely going to get fired.

"Felix, what are you doing here?" Mrs. Jaqueline asks.
