Kagami
The rest of the party was unpleasant. Chloe made it even more excruciating. Her nasally voice and her bragging rights start to create a migraine. I want to leave, but my mother hasn't called for me. Adrien is busy with a few other guests and I'm seated on the couch wishing for the time to speed up. I want to be home and in my bed.
"Yeah, Kagami's actually one of the other best fencers I know. If you need some lesson's I'd ask her." Adrien praises me and I feel content to hear it.
"She's a bit intimidating though." One of the boys says.
"Kagami? She's fierce and confident. I could see why you say it's intimidating, but honestly she's a really great person to have around." My brows furrow and I contemplate how Adrien said something similar about Marinette.
"I believe you, but I don't think I could talk to her." The boy says and I appreciate his surrender.
The three boys walk away from Adrien as I make my way to him. My hand lands on his shoulder and he turns to smile at me. It's sincere and the awkwardness has dispersed. He's been very hospitable for everyone here. Then again that's how he's always been.
"Thanks for trying." I raise my shoulder and tilt my head.
"If only they knew." He stares at the boys backs.
"How ironic for you to say that." I smile, while crossing my arms.
"Why is it ironic?" His eyes look confused.
"No reason." I shrug.
Chloe walks over to Adrien and clings on his arm. She then glances over at me and smiles. Does she honestly think I'm jealous? I roll my eyes and walk over to the couch I was seated on a moment ago. Anytime now mother. Please.
"Ms. Tsurugi, your mother has requested your leave." one of the butlers announce as he enters the room.
"Finally." I stand and the relief washes over me.
"It feels like you just arrived, you're going now?" He asks with his innocent stare.
"Mother calls and I prefer to be home, but as always you've been a great host." I lift my drink up to him and sip the rest. I place the drink on the table with a couple of other empty ones and walk out the door. Adrien waves bye, while smiling.
Perhaps after tonight things will change. The weight of resentment and unresolved feelings had made me bitter the past few months. Now I feel more calm. I'm even happy. More me than I have ever felt in a really long time.
Loving is so difficult. It's painful or it's hopeful. From loving Adrien I learned how heartbreak feels. I learned what selflessness can be. I also figured out how Marinette must have felt by letting Adrien go.
Marinette's smile resonates in my mind, she wouldn't let anyone see her saddened. When Adrien and I started dating I rarely saw her around. It hurt me to think I hurt her. She was my only friend at the time, but everyone deserves a chance at love.
Before Marinette confesses her love, she needs to figure out how to speak to him first. The incoherent sentences and her awkward poses, cause me great distress. If she were to learn how to push past her hesitation, then perhaps Adrien could learn a thing or two from her.
My heels echo from the white stone staircase, while my eyes see my mother standing at the end of them. She is no longer wearing the ridiculous mask and it reminds me that I never actually followed through with mine. The door opens behind her and we walk in silence as Tatsu pulls around. There is a small smile as she looks forward. I'm sure it's good news.
