Kagami

Classes are now over and my heart rate has accelerated. It's time for Logan to ask my mother for permission. I stand at the entrance of the school only to feel the anticipation rising within me. My eyes close and the sun's rays beam onto my skin. Logan will ask and she will decline, and I will have to explain in the end. For once I've never felt the want so bad. It reminds me of when I fought to make friends so long ago. This feels different though. It's more of a crave.

"You ready?" His voice soothes me and I stare into his green gaze. They glow and my lungs feel punctured.

"Yes." I smile and turn to see Tatsu pulling up to the front of the school. Logan and I make our way down the stairs and I feel myself trembling a bit. This feeling, why do I want her to say yes so badly?

"It's going to be fine, Kagami." Logan reaches for my hand and squeezes it for reassurance. The shock of his gesture is dismissible. I need her to say yes. My eyes stare at his hand holding mine and then glance up at him. I nod and step forward and notice my mother exiting the car.

She stands big and proud. Her outfit is a black jumpsuit with red toe covered heels. She has her black cane this time with our family crest on it. She's been dressing better each time I see her and it makes me wonder if she hired a different stylist. I haven't seen the old one around now that I think about it.

"Hello, mother." Logan and I both stand in front of her and I remove my hand from his.

"Kagami, we have that dinner party tomorrow, have you found suitable clothes for it?" She's asking that now?

"I haven't, but I will look tonight. I'll be sure to find something appropriate. I do, however, have someone here who would like to meet you." My voice is quaking and Logan places his hand on my shoulder telling me he's got it. The only one who challenges me is my mother and until now Marinette has been the only one who has seen this side of me.

"Mrs. Tsurugi, my name is Logan Lochlian. My father and I have been such huge fans of yours. He made sure to play that championship of the saber event for me when I was old enough to start fencing. However, I was never as good as you nor as good as your daughter here. She really has a talent." He beams and all the stress leaves me.

"That's very kind of you. It's very nice to hear I still have fans. It's been a while since I've heard from any of them." I can feel the air shift.

"Well not only were you great at fencing, but you also gave my cousin an opportunity to try it. She is disabled like yourself and even though she isn't able to hear she tries her best in the competitions. You may not realize it, but you've become a renowned role model. Not just for ordinary kids like myself but extraordinary ones like my cousin." Logan has a cousin? I didn't know this. My heart feels calm and I clench my hands together. I'm learning more about him and it makes me feel happier each time.

"That's very heartwarming Mr. Lochlian. Thank you for that." She smiles. My mother is genuinely smiling.

"No, Mrs. Tsurugi, thank you. I've never seen her so committed to something it's a great thing to see. Also you can call me Logan. Do you mind if I ask you for a photo? My father wouldn't believe me when I tell him I've met his idol." Logan, as slick as he is, pulls out his phone from his pocket.

"I don't mind." She smiles.

"Kagami, could you take a photo of us?" Logan asks nicely, while he stands next to my mother.

"Of course." I take both horizontal and vertical views as they smile into the lense.

"Thank you so much Mrs. Tsurugi." Logan beams and takes his phone back.
