"Prom is in two days and I'm for sure not mentally prepared." Andrea groaned, lying on the grass. "Or physically."
I smirked as I laid down beside her. The grass had the scent of being mowed a while ago.
"Who cares about prom? I mean, it's not that important." I stopped talking as Andrea's eyes widened in horror.
She rolled over to face me completely, pulling me closer. "Not that important? Are you on drugs?" She paused. "Honestly, you probably are. It's the one moment we'll actually have fun at school and remember. We'll look back in a few years and laugh!"
I rolled my eyes.
"You don't care about prom because your girlfriend isn't a high schooler." Andrea snapped. I stifled a giggle as someone plopped down beside me, holding out two cherry sodas.
"Oh. Thanks, it feels like it's 90 degrees out here." I took a swig and tossed the other can over to Andrea. "Where's Ariana?" I asked after I finished the can.
"Busy, probably." Jane said. Jane had changed a ton towards the end of the summer; she cut and dyed her hair blonde at the ends, and started wearing less black clothes. It surprised all of us. Her maturity was what surprised me the most, though.
"When are you gonna tell Jacob?" Andrea asked. I had told her over five hundred times to not bring the subject up, but here she goes again. I swear my friends never listened when I ask them a simple favor.
"Soon." I muttered as I always did, ignoring her questions. Jane turned away uncomfortably - having a huge crush on me caused her to not be interested in talking about my girlfriend or anything involving her.
"You say that every time I ask," Andrea pointed out impatiently as she picked at the grass. "I just want you to do it, you know? Get it over with."
"When the time is right." I said sharply, telling her the conversation was over. I turned towards Jane, smiling a bit. "So how'd the summer treat you?"
Jane smirked. "Pretty good, actually. A cute girl works at forever 21 now," (Jane had gotten a job there too, so she could earn extra money) "and I'm positive she's into girls."
I could tell she was just trying to say these words to make me believe that she had moved on. I didn't believe her, but I nodded happily. "That's great. Is she cute?"
"Blonde hair, brown eyes. Of course." Jane flashed her brilliant white teeth and I glanced uneasily at Andrea.
I remembered what happened earlier in the summer...
June 27th
"I'm so glad you forgave me. I don't know what I would do if you didn't." Jane said as she sat on my bed. I just nodded; I was going through my year books.
"What are you even doing? Aren't we supposed to be, I don't know... having fun?" She leaned over me and I felt her hot breath on my neck. I quickly pulled myself up, knocking my head on my desk in process.
"Ouch," She murmured as she came closer. Her eyes met mine and she reached over to caress my cheek. I winced. "
"Sorry." She murmured.
"It's okay, was my fault." I felt my cheeks burning beneath her cold palm. We stared at each other; the silence filling the room was agonizing.
Without warning, Jane leaned in and kissed me. Her lips were furious against mine, soft and warm. She was a different kisser than Ariana, that was for sure.
