Carter
It was raining; I turned my wind-shield wipers on as a defense and drove slowly. It was still dark out, despite it being a quarter to seven. The clouds in the sky were doing a good job hiding the rising sun, only allowing a bit of light to guide my car. Ariana shuffled around noisily in her seat, growing impatient.
"Calm down. I'll be there soon," I said, slowing down as I came across a red light. There were only a few more miles until our destination would be reached, and I was scared. Scared that Jane would be a mess. Scared to even see her.
The place I was going to was some type of strip club; Jane and I had gone there numerous times together, before we were officially a couple. I bit my lip, fighting back tears as the memories hit me at full force.
The light turned green quicker than expected. I drove faster, keeping my eyes on the road ahead. I could feel my hands shaking and I took deep breaths to calm myself down.
"A strip club?" Ariana asked, more to herself than to me, as we pulled into the halfway full parking lot. "Real classy." She murmured, thinking I couldn't hear her. I stared at her for a second before realizing this was her jealousy acting out, not her.
"Alright. You stay in the car."
"Um, no. I came all this way for a reason."' Ariana snapped. "Let's do this."
Together we got out of the car and so locked it. I took a wary glance up at the sign before going to the usher, where we showed him our ID.
Once inside, the bright colorful lights took me by surprise. I immediately saw Jane, across the room, making out with some random girl. I felt a rush of anger. Who was she?
"Excuse me." I snarled, getting in between them. They somehow didn't notice I was there, still desperately kissing. "Excuse me!" I yelled in their faces to finally get them to stop. The girl stared down at me, sudden anger on her face. She would've been quite pretty if her arms hadn't been holding tightly onto Jane.
"Watch where you're going, bitch."
"Huh?" I began to crack my knuckles, preparing for a punch. I felt a hand on my shoulder. It was Ariana. She had a firm grip on Jane with her other.
"It's okay." She mouthed.
I glared at the random girl who had her lips all over my - ex - girlfriend and stormed past, grabbing Jane's other arm. "Why did we ever go here? Not like there was a chance of meeting someone special. This place reeks of desperation. Was I this desperate for a companion?" I hissed, as Ariana's eyes widened.
"No, no, Carter," She shook her head "You were just lonely." With her free hand she squeezed mine and smiled at me, reassuring me that everything would somehow work out.
After this sweet moment, we both nervously cast a look at the clearly not sober Jane. "What're we going to do?" Ariana asked me.
"Take her back to my place, wait for her to sober up? Then maybe I can talk to her?"
Ariana nodded. "Good idea." She helped me carry - or maybe drag - Jane outside and to the car. Halfway through, Jane burped and we allowed her to go by the trees and release everything. Ariana and I shared a disgusted look between each other.
"Thanks, guysssss," Jane slurred, grinning as she fell into the back seat of my car and immediately was fast asleep.
"Wow. That was quicker than I expected." Ariana chuckled as I started the car back up and began to drive. I flinched as her eyes remained on me. I felt a sudden fear. Would Ariana think I still had feelings for Jane? Did I? We had just broken up. There was no way to pretend Jane was just a friend.
