Calum
"Fuck, she's going to get herself caught." I whispered to Riley, who was searching in Brinleys duffle bag for the keys.
"I thought you had the keys?" She aggressively slammed her hand on the table.
"I thought you did." I tried to keep my voice down, but the school was empty anyways.
"Fuck." we both said.
"Call her talkie." Riley said.
I grabbed the walkie talkie on the corner of the table, standing up. I clicked the button at the top, turning the dial to hopefully come across the channel she was on. "Hello?" I kept repeating, but she wasn't answering fast enough.
"The fuck, Calum?" Brinleys voice was raspy, I wasn't sure if it was the bad connection or just because she didn't get any sleep.
"No keys, we need you to help." Riley blurted.
"That was such an important part of the plan, are you kidding?"
We both shook our heads, forgetting she couldn't see us.
"Get one of Savannahs over priced bobby pins and the small screwdriver from my bag." She sighed.
We did exactly that. Sav put up a struggle, but after bribing her, we somehow made it.
"A locked door has these pins you have to push up, there should be four. Stick the screwdriver directly in the bottom part of the key hole.. Got it?" Her voice was muffled, but before she could go on, Riley hit the ground to her knees, and I hovered over her with a flashlight.
Riley nodded.
"Riley? Do you fucking got it?" Brinley was angry at this point. Balancing two things at once, and only being in one place.
"Yes, shit. Sorry, I forgot you can't see us. I'm just used to you being here, I don't know." Her words were everywhere, she was getting nervous. And it's not good when one of us is nervous, because we all get mad anxiety. It's not a ticket you want to buy to this kind of show.
"There is four pins that you have to push up with the bobby pin. Knowing Sav, it will be an expensive one, so it won't break. Therefore- don't be scared to get rough." Her voice would break out at certain moments. luckily keys words were easy to piece together.
"Okay." I breathed. "It's okay." I lied to myself. I tried to whisper so that Brinley wouldn't hear, then yell through the talkie that I shouldn't be getting anxiety because we do this kind of stuff all the time. Brinley Reynolds does this kind of stuff all the time, not us, not me. I'm supposed to be the good one out of the batch.
"Start with the once closest to you, then when you hear a click, move to the next. It will be hard to find, but you will know when you feel and hear it. So Calum stop talking to yourself, and get your breathing under control. It has to be quiet. Also, tell Ashton to put out that fucking cigarette before I come up there and kick his-"
"Ashton, put it out." I yelled from behind. I can't believe she let him come. "How'd you know that and we didn't?" I asked.
"Because I heard a lighter flick, and none of y'all smoke. I'm assuming. Over."
I watched him as he threw the fresh lit cigarette out the window just missing the large tree right in front of him. What an idiot..
*click*
"Got it." Ri chered. Only 3 more to go, then we're in. I thought.
The feeling in my gut was telling to me jump out the window and save myself, but my stomach was telling my otherwise. I had so much adreniline in me at that point, I couldn't contain it. It hurt to hold this all in, but I had no other choice, than to stand there and wait for her to hurry the fuck up.
*click*
fuck, fuck, fuck, the cops are going to be here at any second, I thought.
*click*
I can hear the sirens already, I thought.
*click*
Or maybe that's Riley screaming at me, I thought.
She's in. We're in. We could get caught, we could get caught.
"Now what?" I nearly shouted, but remembered what Brinley told me. School security.
"Get the paper that she wrote all the chemicals on, because I'm fucking stupid when it come to Chem" Riley's voice suddenly got quiet. "Stupid fucking Brin making us all take AP Chemistry." She whispered to herself as she read down the crumbled paper.
I giggled, pretending that I wasn't laughing at what she said.
"I don't even know what any of this means, but fuck it." She searched the shelves and drawers, grabbing bottle after bottles. I couldn't even read the names, chemicals that were opaque silver, clear white, see-through blues. All sorts of liquids ending in "ide's" and "ite's." Brinkley could name these chemicals by the alphabet. In fact, she arranges them for the teacher just for fun. "Calum, I don't know what I'm fucking do-"
"FUCK." I heard the from the talkie, followed by a series of "Oh my god's"
I grabbed the talkie from the table where it stood. I pressed the button on the side, full of pure worrisome. "Brin? Hello? What the fuck happened? Over."
Flat call.
"Brinley." In my voice you could tell I was scared, but trying so hard, not to let it show, for the sake of my reputation with Brinley thinking I'm some anxious nerd. "Brinley fucking Reynolds, don't play games right now." I warned. I waited for 10 seconds, but in this type of rush, it felt like an hour. "Brinley" I started to raise my voice, which caused Riley to shush me. Clearly, she wasn't paying attention to what was happening behind her. She was too busy switching bottles, and labels around. "Brinley you asshole. This isn't funny." I talked at a normal tone, which was still too loud for Riley's liking.
"Run." She whispered so quietly. Like she was in one of those horror movies where she's being held hostage and she has to keep quiet of the murdered would be sure to find her. I've never heard her voice so shaky, so terrifying. I would say I was scared, but that would be an understatement.
"Ri, we gotta fucking go." I started shoving my bag with all our belongings. "Ashton, get the rag, wipe this place clean." I instructed.
"This isn't a homicide, it's just a prank, kid. Don't be so cautious." He scoffed.
"Irwin, now." I said demanding, if he kept talking I would've exploded right then and there. I zipped the bag up.
"Where the fuck is-" Riley started as she locked up the office room.
"Let's go." I said before sliding my legs down the window sill, hanging them there as I waited for everyone to come towards me.
"No man left behind." Riley stated.
"Especially Brinley." Ashton added.
"Cars now. Let's go." I breathed into the talkie, warning everyone else on watch out. I jumped to the sturdy tree branch, letting my legs deal though the pain for a second or two.
"Fuck." I heard Ashton say from the inside.
I smirked, suddenly remembering that we were in a hurry. I jumped down to the grass below me, not even letting my limbs recover from that nasty fall.
Then I ran. I ran, and ran, and ran, and fucking ran. Hoping that Brinley would meet us in the jeep. Happy and smirking, telling me how funny I sounded, and how worried I was. Letting us all know it was all a joke. I ran, hoping that was the result of all this. Another game of hers, please oh please.
