I wrap around the elastic one more time to secure my high ponytail, taking one last glance in the mirror. I was home alone, but I always was every weekend, the house rung echoes throughout, my music clear to the neighbors. I grab my laptop with one hand, and my other taking the toothbrush from out of my mouth, tossing my computer on my bed. I walked around, eyeing my bedroom window in the corner of my vision. I scrolled through my tumblr, reblogging, and going through playlists after playlists. I laid flat on my stomach. An abrupt knocking caught my attention towards the window, followed by a recognizable face that made me jump. I rush towards him, instantly knowing who it was.
"You're such an arse Ashton, you scared me half to death." My voice caused him to laugh, I lightly punched him in the arm. "Now what do you want?" I crossed my arms.
"Well I heard your music and thought you were having a party, but clearly-"
"Okay if you're going to be mean you can leave right now," I joked heavily.
"I'm kidding Brin, can't neighbours just hang out?" He took the light wooded chair at my vanity and sat on it backwards.
"Yeah sure, but when it's 1 in the morning it's different." I sat on the end of my bed, across from his face.
"Okay." he elongated the word. "Maybe I need your help with something," His short light brown waves falling into his vision. My glare was a motivation to keep explaining. "I need your help to do something that might be considered illegal."
The word "illegal" made my head rise up quickly.
"That was a joke." his dimples lightly showing, eyes still stuck on me. "A little" His mouth now a full smile. "Listen- I'm in a bit of trouble with this guy and he owes me a bit of money so I thought why not go to his house and, y'know, give him a little scare." he scoots the chair closer, his face inches from mine.
I've admired him for quite the time, but I would force myself not to think of him like that, we've been best friends for 15 years and I didn't want to mess things up or come too close, but there have been moments where we've been a bit too intimate but both of us would forget about it the next day, I hated it.
"How much money?"
"400 dollars or something like that." He answered quickly.
"Who is this person?" Ashton trailed behind me as I paced back and forth around my bedroom.
He swiped his tongue along his lips, trying to ignore the question.
"Ash?" His face turned, so I followed.
"Luke."
My eyes widened at his response, thinking that he could use someone else as a felon instead of me.
Luke and I used to date about a year ago, he got what he wanted, then the nest day I called and he never picked up. He now has a record with girls and a reputation that will never bleed.
"No."
"No, but can you please listen for just a second," He reaches out his arm dramatically. I glare questionably. "He wanted me to do him a favour and I did, it may or not have been legal, I'm still not sure, but I did and he never paid me the amount he promised. Please take my side on this." He leans forward, looking so venerable.
"I honestly think you're delusional if you think I'm actually going to agree to this."
"Why won't you just help me get revenge on him."
"Because I think it's immature, karma will hit him soon, and harder than ever. Plus this all seems so dramatic really."
"Listen- I know he hurt you before and I know you're still hurting, but this could be your chance to get back at him for what he did to you." He never did forget about it, he wouldn't let it go although I already have.
