I stare at my alarm clock, realizing the time. I grab my pack of smokes and lighter, heading for the bedroom window. I slowly climb to outside onto my flat surfaced roof.
"10:45 on the dot, good one." Ashton smiles, sitting comfortably in his spot.
I sit, identical to him opening the small box and putting it between my lips.
"That could kill you."
"Why do you think I'm smoking it?" I muffle my words whilst I light my cigarette, blowing the smoke towards him because l knew how much he hated it.
I place the lighter and box back on the window ledge. I stared back at his face, a little confused.
"Why the shades?" I ask, while trying to make myself comfortable on the ruff surface.
"Because of this;" He removes his sunglasses and shoves his hair from his eyes, looking back up at me.
His left eye was surrounded by a pool of black, blue, and purple colors.
"Holy shit, Ash." I almost spit out the object between my lips.
He quickly places the shades back on, blocking his shiner.
"I'm guessing you got caught?" I giggle, while leaning back, prepared for a story.
"Unfortunately yes,"
"You never did tell me what happened that night, you kind of called me in the morning begging me to come and pick you up." I exhale deeply. We sit in complete silence, sharing stares. "You don't have to tell me, I was just wondering."
"No, I want to tell you I do, but I thought he would have texted you about it so I assumed you knew already."
"Not yet, no, but then again it hasn't even been a day since then so I guess I'll just have to do the waiting game." I exhale, looking up at the stars.
"Can I ask you something?" He talks lightly, but still smooth, I could tell he was feeling a little nervous.
"Shoot."
"Promise not to get mad at me?"
I still continue to look above, baffled by the wonderful sky. "Why would I get mad?" I giggle.
Ashton and I have been friends ever since I could remember, usually nothing he could do would get me mad, unless it was something super personal or if he hurt me on purpose, but he never would do that, so I didn't have anything to worry about.
"Because, whenever I talk about this topic you get all touchy and defending, it scares me, so I just program my brain not to bring it up again."
I knew exactly what he was talking about. "Is this about last summer?" I look directly at him, as soon as I was done talking.
He nods.
Last summer Luke and I went on a roadtrip to a couple towns over and it was all fun, we were just teenagers letting loose, just taking our stress off school and enjoying each others time, we were in love, or at least I was, I'm not too sure about him. When people ask about it I always say that we were going into Los Angeles to learn to surf, party, and whatnot, because I've always wanted to learn to surf but I never have, but that wasn't exactly the case. I still laugh about it to this day because I had to beg my parents to let me go to "Camp" with Aubrey, and they finally caved in.
"Just don't get mad, okay?" He crosses his legs, leaning in a bit further.
I nod in agreement, although it was most likely going to tick me off again.
