"Miss Reynolds, you're late." Mr. Murphy spotted me at my desk, placing my books down before taking a seat, without giving me his full attention.
I was sure so that he wouldn't see me, his back was to the students, and I got Aubrey to open the door in the back of the room for me, plus he was just writing the lesson on the front board.
"I'm sorry, I was just-" I froze, still not sitting down.
"Not Sorry's, you're 15 minutes late, 17 now, I'll see you after school." He still didn't turn around to face me, I guess he was used to this routine by now.
"Okay." I sighed, giving up and finally sitting at my assigned desk. I was placed second row to the back, in between one of my best friends, Aubrey, Riley directly in front of me, and one of my mutual friends, James, which was nice because he was a giant who was on the football team, I could be texting the entire class and no one would notice.
"Brin, next time, don't wear heels in Murphy's class, it echoes through the room." Aubrey leaned over to whisper. Good thing this class was big, so the teacher couldn't hear us very well.
"Yeah, I know that now." I shrug.
"So what's the deal with you and Luke?' Riley pulled my arm, yanking me to the other side, forcing me to talk.
"What do you mean?" I stare her in the eyes, trying to keep my voice to a whisper.
"I dunno, I see you guys talking at your lockers, you guys are like hush hush, secretive, like you don't want anyone to notice." She releases my arm finally.
"I don't know what you're talking about? We're just locker buddies." I knew she would never believe that in a million years. I always told Riley and Aubrey how much i hated Luke, and that I would never talk to him ever again, so for her to think we were buddies was a long shot, but it was worth a shot.
She just looked at me in disgust, slowly starting to move back, scared that we would be noticed.
"Reynolds, Larson, is there a reason you two are talking in my class?" I felt like a deer in headlights, with the entire class turning heads to look at us, caught in the moment.
We both stuttered to talk.
"That's what I thought." He continues to write nonsense on the board. "Oh and Miss Larson,"
She looks back at the teacher.
"you may join your friend, Miss Reynolds, in detention, maybe you two can talk then." He smiles at himself, as the entire classes shuns and starts to copy the words scribbled on the board.
"Just awesome." She breathes out.
"Hey, it's not the first time." I smile, trying to lighten the mood, which made her crack a small smirk.

I grab my books off my desk, waiting for Riley to follow me.
"You can go ahead."
"Are you sure?" I ask, confused.
"Yeah, I'll just meet you at the table in the lunchroom." She smiles, but I could tell something was up.
"Okay, whatever you say." I elongate my words, walking backwards out the door, clashing into a body.
"Watch where you're goin-"
I turn around quickly, before they could finish their sentence.
"Oh, it's you."
Luke.
