AND IM SORRY

Brinley

"Brinley, are you okay?" I feel a light squeeze on my thigh, instantly opening my eyes to see Ashton sitting next to my bed, shaking me.

I groan in response, pulling the covers over my head, whilst holding my stomach.

"Brin, you have to get ready for school." Michael barely laughs.

"Babe-Briney," He sounded like he got caught robbing a bank, he was as confused as I was. Ashton tried to rid the barrier between us, not struglling because he was 10 times as stronger than me. He runs his abnormally large finger to my forehead, moving my hair back. "she's burning up, mate."

I groan, again. Not making effort to actually speak real words.

"She never gets sick, she's Brinley." Michael exclaims, while opening my blinds that were facing behind me.

"Looks like she's not going to school today." He finally lets go, and the blankets spring back over on top of me, making me smile in the warmth and coziness of the covers. "It's fine, I'll take care of her."

"Are you sure?" Michael sounds confused.

"Yes, I don't have anything better to do today, really." I hear Ashton kick off his shoes, and taking off his flannel that I saw him wearing earlier. "Hear, take the car." I hear ashton say, followed by a toss of keys scrambling.

"Thanks, mate. Wait, are you sure your not going anywhere with the car today?" Michael stops to ask.

"I'm sure, and if I do I'll take Brins car." Ashton tugs at the covers again, suceeding. "I'll see you later." He shouts so Michael can hear.

"Ashton." I say followed by short groans.

"Yes." He chuckles, still holding back my sheets.

I roam around my bed with my hands, my eyes still remained shut, trying to find something to cover my morning face. "I feel gross." I finally reach for the pillow near my head, and Ashton's legs, instantly trying to cover my face with it.

"I know." He sounds like he was talking to a dog.

"Ashton?" I extend his name, smiling at the thought.

"Yes, Brinley?" He tried again to remove the pillow from my face, this time with more of a struggle.

"Why did you call me "babe"?" I throw the pillow across my bed, with Ashtons grip still on it, it flung over my bed to the wall. I looked him dead in the eyes, and he looks so amused with himself.

"What do you mean?" He gets up, walking to my bookshelf in the corner, fiddling through the selection.

"Why did you call me "babe"?" I repeat, but more persistant.

"Why do you suddenly sound better?" He smirks, staring at me, with a book in hand.

Okay, I will admit that I may have overaggerated my sickness, but I didn't feel too hot either. It was just a little headache and it blew over noww, so it doesn't matter.

I stay silent, waiting for him to say something to my question, as I ignore his last comment.

"I don't know, because." He shruggs, while deciding on two books in each his hands.

I lean up, sitting from my bed, looking at confused Ashton trying to decide on a book. "They're both horrible, I think you'll like the ones on the top shelf better."

"Stephen King?" He says as he pulls out a smaller book, flipping from the front to back.

"Yeah, it's kind of creepy," I get up, shoving the covers away from me, walking over to Ashton, who was now staring directly at me. "like you." I smile.

<><><><><><><><>

"Are you sure we won't get caught?" I ask, second guessing this plan.

"Of course not, not like anyone from school will be downtown, it will be pretty much empty." He assures me whilst he buckles his seat belt.

"Okay, I trust you, Irwin." I turn around, searching, before backing up.

He shyly smiles, rubbing my thigh to reassure me.

I roll my eyes. "Let's go." I breathe, stopping the car before heading to the highway.

"So why did you fake sick?"

"I don't know, why did you call me babe?" I shoot back, smirking at my own comeback.

"I asked you first."

"Fine," I say before looking both ways and turning into the very long highway. "because I just hate school, and I want to spend as much time with you before I go." I rush my last words in, praying that he didn't hear them.

"What?" Ashton pretty much yelled. "What do you mean?"

"Nothing, lets just keep driving, please." I rest my hand on his, assuring, yet nervous as hell. He sighed, because he actually believed me. "So why did you call me "babe"?"

"I don't know, I guess it was a slip, and of course Michael just had to be there when it happened."

"Oh." I say, still not trusting his explanation, but taking it in anyway.

"Just "oh"?"

"Yeah? I don't know what to say when your best friend calls you babe all of a sudden." I say, while taking short glances at him.

"Oh."

I laugh, partially sarcastically. "Very funny, asshole."

I catch him smile in the corner of my eye.
