Brinley

"So what did you do yesterday?" Michael asks, following close beside me.

"I stayed home and watched films pretty much, I don't know, what sick people do I guess." I lied.

"Your house?" He looks confused. He pushed pass a group of people, holding his books close to his chest. "Or Ashton's house?" I see him wink at me in the corner of my eye.

"Oh hush." I nudge him with my elbow, suddenly blushing at the memory.

"So I assume you weren't actually sick?" He pulls in front of me, stopping right ahead of me, and turning to his locker.

I shyly smile, twirling my hair in my unoccupied hand, biting my lip.

"Why are you looking at me like that? Did you fuck each other or something." He giggles, lightly throwing his books in his locker and shutting it right away.

"No." I extended, right away realising how non-convincing that sounded.

"Whatever, let's go because Calum and the guys are waiting for us."

"Calum and the guys?" I quote, being a little taken back by his words. "Since when does Calum run the group?"

"Since Ashton graduated, Brin. Now let's go, or else were going to be hearing an earful at the table." He pulls the collar of my oversized sweater, causing me to almost drop my books.

"So what's the deal with you and Cali?" Riley asks, picking at her oddly colored mashed potatoes.

"What do you mean?" Calum says, confused as ever.

I sat there, picking at the gross cafeteria food, making faces as the shades of the potatoes start to change. I push it ahead of me, towards Riley. "This is so disgusting, I'd rather starve." I coldly spat, grabbing my water bottle and untwisting the cap.

"Me too." Aubrey repeats, shoving her tray of food beside mine, mirroring my actions.

"I don't know, like are you guys dating or something?" Riley questioned, leaning in closer to Calum and waiting for him to speak.

Riley was always super nosey in other people business, especially when it came to relationships.

"We're not really offical, if I'm honest." Calulm shrugs off. Even Calum doesn't seem to be very interested in this topic.

"I'm going to get another water, does anyone want anything?" I stand up, walking towards the front of the table, getting "no I'm fine" from everyone.

I him my way to the corner of the lunch room, eyeing my exact destination. As I reach down to grab the bottle I hear a voice.

"Hello, Brin." A cheery voice calls.

I turn around, nervously hoping it wasn't the voice I thought.

It was Ashton.

I push him by the chest, pinning him in the corner. I wasn't the tallest, he was basically a building compared to me, but I tried my best to angel myself so he was covered.

"You can't just come out of the blue, you don't even go here, what of someone sees you?" I interrogate. I let go of the collar of his flannel.

"Relax, I never get caught." He smirks, staring down at me.

"This is the lunch room, everyone is here, including teachers, they will spot a ragity boy, trust me they remember your face." I cross my arms, in nervousness and a little annoyed.

"Yeah, I'm kind of famous here." He sarcastically brushes off his shoulder, walking pass me.

I turn to watch him lean down on the vending machine, grabbing my water bottle that I purchased earlier.

"Oh, and thanks for the water." He looks back at me, smirking, followed by a wink.

I roll my eyes in annoyance, but suddenly realising how much I loved the dork.

I walk back to the table in the middle of the lunch room, trying to get the smile off my face. No one noticed my presents until I sat down.

"Did you just see Harry Styles or something?" Michael laughs, taking a sip of his soda.

"Yeah, why are you blushing?" Calum leans over the table, getting inches closer to my face.

Even I didn't know why I was blushing, it's just Ashton. I see him everyday, literally, how is this any different? I think this just made me realise that I might have fallen for him, maybe for all the right reason, or the wrong, who knows.

"Nothing." I smile, licking my lips, the only way I could stop smiling. I rest my elbows on the table, my hand holding up my chin.

Everyone looks at each other and then shrugs. "Okay." They simultaneously speak.

"Where's your water?" Riley asks.

I heard a faint voice from her, spacing out for a second.

"Brinley." I feel a nudge on my arm, waking me back to reality.

"What?" I turn to face her, not realising that everyone else was staring at me.

"Are you okay?" Aubrey blurts, sounding a little disgusted, but a good disgusted.

"Yeah?" I laugh in response. "I'm probably just a little off, I'm just getting over a little cold." I cough, hoping that they would buy it.

The bell rang, stopping Riley from what she was going to say.
