I found Aren’s familiar face waiting for me in the kitchen corner. He was sitting comfortably with his unwavering gaze on my every move. It was a routine he never missed. I clenched my teeth tightly again when I started experiencing constant pain, as if my muscles were continuously cramping. I sighed, feeling the strain in my body.

“Ayos ka lang?” paos niyang tanong habang nakaupo. Bakas sa mukha niya ang pag-aalala habang naglalakad ako papalapit sa kusina.

“Hmmm.” Tumango ako bago kumuha ng tubig sa lamesa. “About your offer of being my Gerod, I will think about it carefully.”

“No pressure,” he said before checking me.

He offered himself to be my Gerod. It’s like the Familiar phase but more engaging because of the consequences that could ruin my plan. Well, although Familiars are superior, having one is like aiming for the moon, given that only exceptional beings possess Familiars, while having Gerod is easy.

It was already eleven in the morning when I looked at the time. I planned to return to Torogan Palace to confirm if one of the gems was under-protected by Renu Macter, the Sultan of Werzenia. I can’t imagine how I survived my five years of independence since I left my hometown. Being independent is challenging, especially when finding my way in unfamiliar territory. I have learned a lot since I ventured out alone, and I can only say surviving is not a joke.

I tightly shut my eyes to prevent double vision. I realized I had not eaten all night because I had watched the soldiers guarding the Torogan Palace perimeter’s security.

I entered the restroom sluggishly. There were mirrors around the wall, and I could see myself from different angles. Slowly, I removed my clothes before I turned on the hot water in the shower and let the water wash over my fair skin. I examined my entire body in the reflection. My soaked, long hair covered my naked body. I felt numb when my fuchsia eyes stared back at me from the mirror.

I clenched my fists tighter until my palm ached from my nails. It was happening again. My round pupil was changing from fuchsia to magenta. I deeply sighed for the fifth time. After cleaning my body, I changed into fresh clothes and dried my thigh-length black hair before leaving the restroom.

Aren still stared at me as if I had done something terrible. “Stop staring, will you?” I lifted my left eyebrow as he shrugged his shoulders.

He has blond hair with a little hint of purple at the edge. He also has a canine ear. Slowly, I lowered my gaze to his muscular body. He’s wearing a dark T-shirt and jeans. He also had a long, black claw resembling a witch’s fingernail. His sclera is unique; it’s black, and he has a large, scarlet pupil.

I coughed slightly. “There is an occasion happening tonight, and the demons will surely take this opportunity to attack. Emperor Damascke’s followers will surely come to take Pollo.”

“Did you dream again?” I nodded.

“Always.” Aren went silent.

I started to glimpse the future by dreaming. I was sixteen when it happened for the first time. I did not understand it initially, but I dreamt about my family one night. And the next day, my nightmare came true. If I had known, I would not have let that happen. I was on my way when I overheard my mother, Duchess Gabie Fogler, discussing my marriage as I passed Grand Duke Jawer’s room. The monarch wanted me to marry the emperor’s oldest son. But my mother opposed it, despite my father’s approval. They argued because my father knew how willing my mother was to stop his idea.
