POV: (Calamitous)
Truths and lies are often changed throughout time. Heroes become villains while villains become heroes. Events are muddled in rumors and theories.
What really happened during the Everlasting War? Let me tell you my side of the story.
Calamitous lost count of the years that passed on, but he missed Snow and knew it had to be over 100,000,000 years. He honestly gave up thinking about freedom after the 10th ruler of the island as there was no escape from his prison. His only hope had died long ago. However, when he finally stopped fighting it. The memories come flooding back to him.
*When did all go so wrong?* He thought as he searched through his memories.
It must have all started after their parents passed away due to an illness. The illness was called the Everlasting Demon, and it was the only sickness that could kill an Angel. The Everlasting Demon has a way of weakening its host bit by bit until a simple injured can finish the job. Well, in his parents' case, it was a simple stab to the heart that killed them. So, Calamitous wasn't surprised that his parents were murdered after the illness did most of the work. He knew it was a matter of time until one of his Uncles, Aunts, or Cousins finished off his parents.
That's what it was like living in Heaven. Always fighting, and anything new was either killed or abused. The Earthly creatures see Angels as gods, but we are far from perfect.
*Note: Heaven is the name where they lived, but are not associated with God or Christianity. This goes with Angels as well.*
*Gods!* Calamitous scoffed.
The reason for us being gods is that the Angels were the commanders of Fate. However, not everyone is born with that ability. It has to be earned. Heaven's creatures were technologically advanced, having phones, t.v.s, radios, etc. But that didn't matter to him.
After his parents died, his younger sister was seen as a prize among the other tribe members. Calamitous knew what would happen to her. So, without hesitation, he took responsibility for his sister. The Angel with red wings had given up his high rank, position, and job to raise her. His new job was being a soul collector. It wasn't easy or paid well, but it was worth it, and it put enough food on the table. Calamitous could also watch his sister grow up under his guidance and protection.
Calamitous did like his job. He took an interest in humans as they were vastly different compared to other animals and the Great Beast. He watched as the humans pushed the plow along the field carried by the backs of two oxen. The Angel loved seeing the children play with one another and learning from teachers, parents, and other adults. They traded with other tribes as well as other creatures. To him, the humans were fantastic.
One day, Calamitous was collecting souls and got sidetracked. He was collecting the soul of an old human when a flash of movement caught his attention. There were a group of humans with two or three oxen that were attached to a wagon. A human girl was petting one of the oxen while the boy was giving an orange root to the other. The adults were talking and laughing.
*I wondered if the oxen are slaves or equals?* He thought as he wanted to continue to watch but had to leave. The Angel had at least 300 more souls to collect today, and most of them were suffering from sickness or old age. He didn't want to them suffer any longer than they had to.
The best part was that Snow was the only other Angel that loved him talking about humans as much as he did. His sister's eyes will become wide as she tackles him at the door. Snow always begging for new stories. Calamitous was happy that someone in his life is excited that he exist. Snow was his whole world, and after their parents die. The brother was her whole world as well. They depend on each other. This is why Calamitous could relate to humans and sometimes wanted to live like a human. Just to see what it was like to be carefree, for once. No responsibility, no one telling him to want to do or using his sister as a way for him to stay in this awful place. However, he could never leave Snow. That is why he will stay in Heaven until she was old enough.
